How to Stop Someone From Shoplifting Again

shoplifter2ap0705_468×385.jpg

Shoppers entering a Wal-Mart Supercenter in Alabama got a reminder not to try anything funny: Two shoplifters stood outside with signs reading “I am a thief, I stole from Wal-Mart.”
Attalla City Judge Kenneth Robertson Jr. ordered the two people to wear the signs for four hours each during two successive Saturdays.

“The only comments we’ve heard so far have been positive,” said store manager Neil Hawkins. “Most of them thought it was a good thing.”

One of the shoplifters, Lisa King Fithian, 46, wore the sign from 11am to 3pm to avoid a 60-day jail sentence. Another convicted shoplifter was at the store from 3pm to 7pm.

Fithian maintained her innocence. She said her conviction was based on a misunderstanding: She said she was taking a $7 item to the service desk because it would not scan.

Outside the store, she said people who saw her wearing the sandwich board commented that the punishment was “cruel.”

Hawkins noted how embarrassing it would be for the public to see someone who got caught shoplifting. “Maybe they’ll think twice about doing it,” he said.

Heh. I don’t know about you but it would break me of the habit of shoplifting if I ever did it.

People Taking the Mark of the Beast as a Man Claims to be Jesus

11And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

12And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

13And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

14And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

15And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

16And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

17And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

18Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Revelation 13:11-18

3And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

4And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

5For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

6And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

7For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

8All these are the beginning of sorrows.

9Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.

10And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

11And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

12And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

13But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. Matthew 24:3-13

After reading the above passages from the New Testament is it any wonder that I am horrified by this story?

A man claims to be Jesus and he claims millions have tattooed the number of the Beast on their bodies.

Read the article and look at the slide presentation. Notice the young man with a tattooed “666″ on his neck and someone proudly showing the same mark on his or her wrist.

I honestly don’t know what to make of this because I have always believed the Tribulation and Great Tribulation would occur after the Church is removed from earth.

I have had earnest discussions with people who believe the Church will be taken from earth after the first half of the Tribulation, that part before the Great Tribulation, where the mark of the beast will be necessary for anyone to buy or sell anything.

I do not believe this man to be the anti-Christ, but I do believe it is a sign of the end times as mentioned by Jesus Himself in Matthew 24.

Republicans Preparing to go Wobbly on Iraq?

It’s all about getting elected and that’s the only game in town for Washington DC.

Reading this article actually confirms it for me.

Quoting John Boehner, House Minority Leader on Fox News Sunday:

House Minority Leader John A. Boehner yesterday said Republican lawmakers might begin looking for a “Plan B,” if there are no measurable signs of progress in Iraq by September. However, Mr. Boehner rejected a Democratic call for withdrawal, saying the president’s plan should be given more time.

“We don’t even have all of the 30,000 additional troops in Iraq yet, so we’re supporting the president. We want this plan to have a chance of succeeding,” the Ohio Republican said during an appearance on “Fox News Sunday.”

However, Mr. Boehner acknowledged the growing pressure on Republicans facing re-election challenges next year. “By the time we get to September or October, members are going to want to know how well this is working, and if it isn’t, what’s Plan B?”

Yessir! Mr. President, we’re behind you 100%. That is until the election gets closer and we have to protect our seats and leave our consciences behind. Or maybe they never really supported this effort in Iraq in the first place and just voted for it out of party loyalty.

Either way, they’re going wobbly and want a miracle by September or you, Mr. President, will be walking on the stumps of your legs.

Prioritizing Our Problems

Michael Barone has written an interesting column for Real Clear Politics with the same title as the one on this post.

He’s asking what is more important in the immediate future: Social Security reform or Global Warming:

Sometimes politicians get things upside down. They ignore problems that are plainly staring them in the face, while they focus on dangers that are at best speculative.

Consider two long-range issues that are not pressing matters this year but pose, or are said to pose, threats a generation or two away. One of them you don’t hear much about: Social Security. The other you hear about all the time: global warming. Yet this gets things upside down. We have an unusually precise knowledge of the problems that Social Security will cause in the future. But we don’t know with anything like precision what a continuation of the current mild increase in temperatures will mean.

He then goes on to show us what we already know: Social Security in its current form cannot support itself much beyond 2017. Read the rest of this entry »

I Think We’ll Sell Our Starbucks Stock

A few years ago the broker we were with at the time recommended Starbucks to us as a good investment. We bought a few hundred shares of Starbucks and we have made money on the deal, but when I read this article in World Net Daily, I’ve decided to show it to my husband today and see if he wants to contact our financial adviser and dump this stock.

An Ohio woman is steaming after reading an anti-God message published on the side of a Starbucks coffee cup.

The message that got Michelle Incanno’s blood boiling reads:

“Why in moments of crisis do we ask God for strength and help? As cognitive beings, why would we ask something that may well be a figment of our imaginations for guidance? Why not search inside ourselves for the power to overcome? After all, we are strong enough to cause most of the catastrophes we need to endure.”

The quote was written by Bill Schell, a Starbucks customer from London, Ontario, Canada, and was included as part of an effort by the Seattle-based coffee giant to collect different viewpoints and spur discussion.

“As someone who loves God, I was so offended by that,” Michelle Incanno, a married mother of three who is Catholic, told the Dayton Daily News. “I don’t think there needs to be religious dialogue on it. I just want coffee.”

Incanno of Springboro, Ohio, admits she had been a huge fan of Starbucks before discovering the message, always ordering a large, house-brewed coffee with nonfat milk and two Splenda.

“I wouldn’t feel right going back,” she said.

Why do people who don’t believe in God always have to give us a back-handed slap in the face by saying He’s a figment of our imagination?

Who am I hurting by believing in God and telling you I do? I can’t force anyone to believe what I believe at the risk of your life, so who am I hurting?

The way I see it, we have two choices for eternity. We die and go to Heaven if we have accepted Jesus as our Savior, or we die and we go to hell if we haven’t.

The way those who do not believe in God see it, I guess for the most part, is we die and go to the grave and that’s it.

So, if I’m wrong what have I got to lose? I don’t believe I’m wrong though. If they’re wrong what do they have to lose other than their eternal life?

Eternal death is the separation from God, realizing He is God and knowing and being fully aware that you rejected Him in life. That along with the torments meant for Satan and his band of followers.

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15 (b)

I’m not a coffee drinker. The only thing I like about coffee is the smell, so I’m not a Starbucks customer, but I’m with Ms. Incanno: I don’t feel right keeping their stock.

Fighting on Two Fronts

How in the world could one justify this situation:

She had raised her daughter for six years following the divorce, handled the shuttling to soccer practice and cheerleading, made sure schoolwork was done. Hardly a day went by when the two weren’t together. Then Lt. Eva Crouch was mobilized with the Kentucky National Guard, and Sara went to stay with Dad.

A year and a half later, her assignment up, Crouch pulled into her driveway with one thing in mind – bringing home the little girl who shared her smile and blue eyes. She dialed her ex and said she’d be there the next day to pick Sara up, but his response sent her reeling.

“Not without a court order you won’t.”

Divorce, separation and child custody battles are not unique to the US military. However, Federal law which protects those in harms way evidently offers no guarantee that a deployed single parent with custodial rights will maintain that status upon their return.

A federal law called the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act is meant to protect them by staying civil court actions and administrative proceedings during military activation. They can’t be evicted. Creditors can’t seize their property. Civilian health benefits, if suspended during deployment, must be reinstated.

And yet service members’ children can be – and are being – taken from them after they are deployed.

Individual states have begun to address this issue and are initiating laws to insure the rights of these parents. Perhaps the federal government should do the same..for the sake of those fighting for our country and the welfare of their children.
