Happy Mother’s Day!
To all the mothers and grandmothers out there we wish you all a very happy Mother’s Day.
If you are fortunate enough to still have your mother around please give her a hug and a kiss for me as mine has been gone for seven years now.
If you are a grandmother you are special as we all know how wonderful our grandchildren are and we seem to be a bit more lenient with them than we were with our children at the same age.
God bless each and every one of the mothers and grandmothers in this world today and always.
Animals Mourn Too
As you know, two days ago we had to have our Golden Retriever/Chow cross dog put to sleep due to his being unable to stand any longer.
We have two other dogs and a cat. Sweetie is a Shepherd mix and came to live with us a year ago. She chose us.
She and Muggsy got off to a bad start, with Muggsy being territorial and from that time on they would get into a tiff at every opportunity. We had to keep them separated most of the time.
We also have a full-blooded cocker spaniel, who is just a few months older than Muggsy was. She was actually the one we expected to go first as she had anal gland cancer, which is very aggressive.
Our vet recommended we take her to North Carolina State University Veterinary Hospital for treatment and she is in remission, but we know the extra three years we got for her can be gone with the first signs of a recurrence of the cancer. We have no intention of putting her through surgery, radiation and chemo again. She’s too old and has had enough done to her.
Since she and Muggsy were puppies together they formed a bond. He was forever licking on her and she’d let him. She had a terrible recurring problem with ear infections, which is something dogs with long ears are prone to have. He would lick her ears and she’d lie there quietly enjoying the cleaning he was giving her much more than the ones we gave her.
We finally had her ear canals removed so she would be out of pain and she was already deaf from so many infections. Still, Muggsy would lick her back and she loved it.
Friday and Saturday have been hard days for Silky. She goes to all of Muggy’s special places and can’t find him and then she wants to go outside to see if he’s out in the back yard.
She knows, and she’s grieving too. How do you help a grieving dog? We give her extra attention, but it’s not our attention she craves.
In a few days or weeks her urge to find him won’t be so great, but it’s so heartbreaking to see her this sad.
Until then we’ll spoil her more than she already is and try to help her get over the hurt we all feel.
A Good Political Ad
Sometimes it doesn’t always take a big-name candidate to be the best candidate for his party’s presidential nomination. If I were a Democrat I’d vote for this guy in the primary.
Would You Buy War Bonds?
The Anchoress has an excellent post about Congress and the stalemate we are now in regarding funding our troops.
The Anchoress used to be a liberal and says she will change her registration to Independent before the next election, but she is concerned about our troops and their needs above all else. Maybe she should be in charge of Congress, as at least she is an adult.
After reading this at Blackfive, I’m beginning to think it’s time. H/T Jules.
It’s been almost 100 days since the president sent the supplemental bill to Congress, and these “we support the troops†types are so busy playing political games, they’re starting to impact the safety of the troops…these are the same people, btw, who were carrying on about how “nothing is more important than the safety of the troops and that they have everything they need.â€
Well…they’re reaching danger point. The troops should not have to scrounge because the Democrats are playing political theater.
Is it time for War Bonds? I’ll buy.
Democrats: You’re bringing yourselves to a place I don’t think you want to go – where you’ll be accountable for troop deaths, beyond your original vote to war – you’ll be accountable for NOT TAKING CARE OF THE TROOPS.
Now, just to be fair I’m going to quote the first post on her comments board and her response:
Gotta say, this whole business of castigating Democrats for “screwing the troops†is getting a little ridiculous. These and other refrains from the cheerleaders of this war are getting very tiresome, because it neglects one salient point. The Congress sent President Bush all the money he needs to fund the troops. Instead of writing a blank check for an administration who has proven that it cannot manage this war effectively, they demanded sign of progress and yes, a timeline. It was President Bush who effectively didn’t support the troops with his veto. When more than 60% of Americans want a timeline and when the Iraqi Parliament itself wants a timeline, it gets kind of hard to blame the Democrats for not wanting to support the troops. They are representing the wishes of the majority of their constituents, not the 28% who still cling to the “Commander guy†and his inept administration. And it’s interesting that you keep using the phrase “adult†as if it’s the Democrats who mismanaged the Iraq quagmire. Sorry, the old refrain that all the hippies are traitors is not resonating like it used to.

——————————————————————————–
Oh come on, now, Kougar, the congress loaded that bill up with so much pork, it was a joke, and everyone knew it was a joke. And as to a timeline, it doesn’t really matter if 60% (your figure, polls are meaningless to me because I know how easily they are manipulated) of the people “want a timeline†that doesn’t mean a timeline is right or sensible. A “timeline†does nothing but tell the enemy to check their calendars for the date they can unleash hell.
‘
Thinking still trumps polling, every time!
‘
Signs of progress and benchmarks are reasonable. TIMELINES are just stupid. The stupidest way to fight any war.
‘
But progress and benchmarks cannot be fairly assessed if the troops are scrounging. So, I’m all for progress and benchmarks…but the congress has to be fair about giving the troops what they need while we’re watching the progress and marking the benchmarks.
‘
And I’m not just picking on the Dems, here. I’d be happy to yell at the GOP for screwing the troops, too…just as soon as they start. Until – ALL of these people voted the troops into harms way. They have to take care of them now. It’s really that simple.Comment by TheAnchoress ? May 12, 2007 @ 10:35 am
As long as this doesn’t require Congressional approval and can be done without them I’ll gladly buy war bonds even if they don’t have a return.
I can remember having a stamp book for war bonds when I was in grade school. Maybe they were called savings bonds then, but either way, if it gets our troops the equipment and hot food they need at the end of a long day I’ll pitch in.
“Oh, My God, It’s a Miracle!”
DENVER, Colo. — Miracles do happen. That’s what doctors said about 30-year-old Shannon Malloy.
A car crash in Nebraska on Jan. 25 threw Malloy up against the vehicle’s dashboard. In the process, her skull became separated from her spine. The clinical term for her condition is called internal decapitation.
“I remember the impact and then I had no control over my head,” said Malloy. “I wasn’t focused so much on the pain. I just kept thinking, ‘I have to stay alive.’”
[...] Five screws were drilled into Malloy’s neck. Four more were drilled into her head to keep it stabilized. Then a thing called a halo — rods and a circular metal bar — was attached for added support. It’s not exactly a pain-free procedure.
“My skull slipped off my neck about five times. Every time they tried to screw this to my head, I would slip,” said Malloy.
Rebuilding Malloy’s neck strength was a priority, but there were also other complications.

An Effort to Make Peace is Met With Anger
The other day I tried one more time to make peace with someone with whom I had had a falling-out two months ago.
I sent a short email stating I still love and forgive her (love as a Christian should love another Christian) and I had accepted her decision to not do something that her partner had said she would try to get done.
My email was met with a long screed of all my personal faults as this person sees them.
She thought my request for peace with her was a request for peace with the Lord. My peace doesn’t come from any person but from the Lord Himself, and I have been at peace with the Lord and myself since I first apologized for any real or perceived hurt I have caused this person.
I have confessed my sins in this event to the Lord and I feel I have done everything He has asked me to do to be in His will.
I answered the email even though she had asked me not to email her again because I wanted her to know she was mistaken in her assumption I thought my peace is dependent upon her acceptance of my apology and my attempt to make peace with her.
I am now going to quote the entire last email I received from her:
FYI – I knew you couldn’t do it!
My husband is right. You aren’t a Christian.
That’s why appealing to your Christian spirit won’t work.
I did not read this email. Nor will I – Get thee behind me, Satan!
The “I knew you couldn’t do it” refers to my answering her email.
Oddly enough, this email didn’t hurt my feelings or make me feel less secure in the Lord.
No person has the right to judge the state of another person’s soul or Christianity if they profess Christianity. And no one has the right to call any other person Satan. That name is reserved for one being and he isn’t human.
I pray for K because I feel she has been deceived by her own illusions. She said God told her not to have anything to do with me and insinuates that I contact her just to stir the pot.
Nothing could be further from the truth and she’s not a mind-reader. I contacted her because I didn’t want long-simmering hard feelings between two people, and it’s as simple as that. I asked her for no favors, though she thinks I did.
A short email to me would have sufficed or she could have ignored it as she has so many other emails from me.
I have not and I will not respond to her latest email and I will let God sort it out.
36Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
37Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:
38Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. Luke 6:36-38
