Defining Evangelicalism

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

Interesting information.
The term “Evangelicalism” is a wide-reaching definitional “canopy” that covers a diverse number of Protestant groups. The term originates in the Greek word evangelion, meaning “the good news,” or, more commonly, the “gospel.” During the Reformation, Martin Luther adapted the Greek term, dubbing his breakaway movement the evangelische kirke, or “evangelical church”-a name still [...]

The Burdens of Being a Queen

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

Ever since I was a child I have admired Queen Elizabeth II. Her son Charles is only a year younger than I so I’ve grown up with her.
But, even though she’s an aristocrat, she’s still human. Look at how miserable she looks in the above photo taken while Britain was celebrating the new [...]

We All Need Friends

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

I have in the past 45 minutes returned from church. I did not attend Sunday School because the sermon seemed to have touched me so deeply I didn’t want to be distracted from it.
I wanted to think and pray about it and a situation that has been very painful to me.
The sermon series is [...]

Nothing Personal Mr. Edwards…but..

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

Anti war protestors at Memorial Day parades may be expected in today’s climate but when a Presidential candidate encourages this action…well judge for yourself.
Edwards backs off call for Memorial Day war protests
Democratic Presidential candidate John Edwards has been urging supporters to demonstrate against the war at Memorial Day parades. The Hill reported a week ago [...]

What if We Held an Election and Nobody Came?

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

With the self-proclaimed base of the Republican party going bananas over illegal immigration and promising to not vote for someone who is not 100% as far right as they are on every issue, we now have the same thing happening to the self-proclaimed base of the Democratic party.
The bitter battle between the Democratic Congress [...]

After That, The World! Bwahahahahaha!

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

According to this article, quoting the Times of London:
The deputy leader of Al Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahiri, has urged supporters in Iraq to extend their “holy war” to other Middle Eastern countries.
In a letter sent to the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq in the past few weeks, Zawahiri claims that it is defeating U.S. [...]

One Thing We Will Not Be Doing Here

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

Over the past couple of days I’ve been reading stories in the Washington Post of two new books critical of Senator Hillary Clinton to be released soon.
The Post has been reporting the gossipy parts of the books, and there is nothing new in their reporting.
We will stay away from the gossip and unless there is [...]

Onions Anyone?

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

If you celebrate Memorial Day with a backyard barbeque, this is something you might like to serve your friends and family.
I don’t know what your initial impression of that photo was but as for me I’ll stick to a good old fashioned Cheesburger with all the fixings.
Have a nice Memorial Day weekend and [...]

Some Odds and Ends

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

I read here about the return of al-Sadr to Iraq and his call for Americans to leave the country.
BAGHDAD — A day after radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr resurfaced to end nearly four months in hiding and demand U.S. troops leave Iraq, American forces raided his Sadr City stronghold and killed five suspected [...]

Muggsy Came Back Home Yesterday

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

Two weeks to the day of having our wonderful dog Muggsy put to sleep we got a call from the vet’s office that the crematorium had just delivered his ashes.
My husband picked them up and Muggsy is now back in our house.
His cremains are in a beautiful poplar wood box stained dark cherry. It [...]

Some Days It’s Best To Remain Quiet

Friday, May 25th, 2007

I wrote a story of Rosie O’Donnell insinuating our troops are terrorists, a story showing a congressman being emotional because Congress finally agreed to fund the guys who are fighting the war and allow them to get equipment such as vehicles that can withstand an IED explosion and numerous other posts and all I get [...]

Gas Prices

Friday, May 25th, 2007

If you want to know why gas is going so high contact your congressman and senators and ask them to sponsor a bill that would force stickers to be put on gas pumps showing how much of the money you are spending for a gallon of gas is going in taxes.
That should curl [...]

The People Are Speaking

Friday, May 25th, 2007

Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California says the public emotion surging around efforts to overhaul the nation’s immigration policy is the greatest she has seen since her 1992 election.
The Democrat said the topic hasn’t translated into the 30,000-plus phone calls to her office that would mean “something is really going on” [...]

North Korea test-fires missiles

Friday, May 25th, 2007

Here we go again.
North Korea fired several short-range guided missiles Friday in an apparent test launch, South Korean officials and media reports said.
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff confirmed the launches, but said it was still investigating how many missiles were fired and where exactly the tests occurred.
“The short-range missile launches are believed to be [...]

Christian Men Plan October Rally in Washington

Friday, May 25th, 2007

Christian organizers on Thursday announced plans for a “sacred gathering of men” in Washington, D.C., in October, almost 10 years to the day after the group Promise Keepers conducted one of the largest rallies in the city’s history.
Organizers say the 2007 “Stand in the Gap” (SITG) rally will differ from the 1997 gathering of the [...]

‘Sex addict’ sues over firing

Friday, May 25th, 2007

I didn’t know how to categorize this. It’s a ridiculous story but some may see it as sad. You deside.

Bill Maher ‘makes Imus look like a saint’

Friday, May 25th, 2007

If Don Imus could be fired for offensive racial remarks, Bill Maher certainly deserves discipline from his employer for bashing Christians, including his description of a Catholic Mass as graphic homosexual acts, charge media watchers.
Explicit sexual mockery of Scripture and Catholic theology on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” should be addressed by parent [...]

Mosques awarded Homeland Security grants

Friday, May 25th, 2007

While the European Union investigates mosques for ties to Islamic terrorism, the U.S. government is giving mosques security grants that are designed to protect churches, synagogues and other nonprofit groups from Islamic terror.
Most recently, the Islamic Society of Baltimore landed a $15,000 grant from the Department of Homeland Security to upgrade security at its [...]

The Interrogation of Monica Goodling

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

Byron York of National Review gives his take on the interrogation of Monica Goodling, late of the Justice Dept., yesterday:
Those were significant issues. But they weren’t enough to capture the attention of some committee Democrats, for whom there were more important questions to consider. Questions like: Where did Monica go to law school?

He does his intro and then posts this angry letter by the sister of the one charged with terrorism:

Shrum’s View of Edwards

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

Bob Shrum, political adviser to many Democrats including Al Gore and John Kerry, started out before the 2004 campaign as a supporter of John Edwards.
That soon changed, as this story in The New Republic shows:
Shrum discovered Edwards during the North Carolinian’s first Senate campaign in 1998. Shrum writes that, after his encounter with Edwards, [...]
