You are correct that there have been incidents in the past of Presidents showing disdain for military leaders but I do not recall a Senate Majority Leader speaking such words of a man with credentials such as are shown <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Pace#Military_awards" rel="nofollow">here</a>. If this is how the leader of the Democrats in Congress shows his support for the troops then I can label it only as deplorable. And Cal, I have not personally met General Pace either but 40 years of service to this country and rising to his rank tells me a little about not only the competence but the character of the man. Tell me, what has Senator Reid done for this country lately? Democrat President James K. Polk had the same disdain for Generals Zachary Taylor and Winfield Scott, the two men who led American armies to victory in the Mexican War. Polk never once had a kind word to say about Taylor and Scott, despite their stunning successes and brilliance in the field. Winfield Scott was arguably the greatest soldier America ever produced. But Polk had nothing but contempt for him because he belonged to the other party.
