A THIRD US soldier has been charged with murdering an Iraqi civilian and placing a firearm on the corpse during operations south of Baghdad, the US military said today.Written by GussSergeant Evan Vela has been charged with premeditated murder and “one specification alleging he wrongfully placed a weapon with the remains of a deceased Iraqi”, the US military said.
Sgt Vela is also charged with making a false statement and obstruction of justice, and has been placed in pre-trial confinement.
On Saturday, the military announced Staff Sergeant Michael Hensley and Specialist Jorge Sandoval from the same unit had been charged with “premeditated murders of three Iraqi nationals in three separate incidents”.

As I have said many times before, the US Military has their bad apples as does any profession.
If these men are found guilty at court martial, I am certain they will pay, perhaps with their lives for the crimes committed. Murder is murder whether committed by a private citizen or a member of our fighting forces.

Not to trivialize this news, but there’s a great movie, Breaker Morant, which looks at the question of when killing in war becomes murder.
It’s loosely based on a true story of the British government accusing three Australian soldiers of murder during the Boer War.
