Written by GussRelatives of firefighters killed at the World Trade Center reproached GOP presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani in a video Wednesday, pairing footage of the falling twin towers with charges the city’s former mayor was woefully unprepared for Sept. 11.
The parents and siblings of some of the 343 firefighters killed in the terrorist attacks released the video with the International Association of Fire Fighters, which opposes Giuliani’s candidacy.Giuliani’s campaign denounced the images, saying that the former mayor had a long history of supporting firefighters’ health and safety and that the international union releasing the video only supports Democratic presidential candidates.
Fire union officials and family members, repeating claims they had made for months, charged Giuliani pushed for a faster cleanup of ground zero at the expense of finding remains, put an emergency center in a building that collapsed on Sept. 11 and failed to provide working radios for firefighters, making it impossible for them to learn the towers were on the verge of collapse.
“Virtually the whole thing goes back to him with the radios,” Jim Riches, a deputy fire chief whose son was killed on Sept. 11, says in the video. “He’s the guy on the top, and he’s the guy you yell at.
“He takes the hit. And my son is dead because of it.”
Giuliani’s camp called the video a “mockumentary.” Giuliani campaign spokesman Michael McKeon said the union leadership “makes Michael Moore look like Edward R. Murrow.”
Former New York firefighter Lee Ielpi, whose son died on Sept. 11, and former Office of Emergency Management Commissioner Richard Sheirer appeared at a news conference with McKeon, calling the video a “disgrace” and saying it is full of “half-truths

It’s Bush’s fault, it’s Giuliani’s fault, to some Republicans it’s Clinton’s fault. How about it’s the fault of the terrorists and quit blaming Americans for what happened?

You can go here and view the entire video and judge for yourselves how much or how little credibility you give to the people making the complaint.
Then skip over to Giuliani’s web site and see his rebuttal.
I wasn’t there and I don’t know the whole truth. This is the truth as these people see it. They are some of the ones who lost loved ones on that horrible day and I’m certainly not going to condemn them or judge their motives.
I am still angry at my mother’s doctor for prescribing a drug for her asthma that I found out on the respiratory ward was an obsolete drug, and I found out by my own research shouldn’t have been given to a seizure patient unless the patient was taking seizure medication. This doctor took her off seizure medication several years before she had a serious seizure that caused her to aspirate and eventually die. That was 7 1/2 years ago, but I know I can’t change anything now or then. Time heals the wounds a bit if we allow them to close and not keep prying them open.
My heart goes out to every single one of the families of every single victim, but I think we need to be more angry with the perpetrators of this atrocity than any other American.

Are you saying it’s like being Swift boated by Republican operatives in ‘04?

I don’t believe I even suggested that, but if you want to believe it then have at it.
I do think the Democrats are afraid of Giuliani and Thompson for some reason or they wouldn’t be starting this so soon. Not before the primaries.
So, maybe some combination of Thompson/Giuliani would be a ticket they fear.
I’ve been heavily involved in unionism and I know where they stand when it comes to politics. I also know they have much more money than the Swift Boat veterans had.
