Can it get any more pathetic?
Written by GussThis weekend, Americans will see images of voters emerging from polling booths proudly displaying their purple-stained thumbs as a mark of pride after their democratic effort.
The images will not be beamed from Baghdad, though, but from Ames, Iowa, where Republicans will gather for an annual straw poll. This year’s straw poll will be the first to have voters dip their thumbs in the same kind of dye used in the 2005 national elections in Iraq.
“We recognize the great privilege of voting by tipping our hat to the Iraqi people who cast their first votes in a free and democratic election,” Chuck Laudner, the Iowa Republican Party’s executive director, said in a news release. “Iowans will be just as proud to display their inked thumb as the newly liberated Iraqi people were.”

Why is it pathetic? Because no one can vote more than once? Not a bad idea for the general election, but for them to recognize the guts it took for the Iraqis to go to the polls is something we should be reminded of daily.

Oh, come on, Guss. Why is this pathetic?
Is it any more pathetic than Democrats fighting tooth and nail against simple measures to thwart voter fraud, such as requiring every voter to have a photo ID?

It’s just pathetic

Guss, my dear, if you are going to state something is pathetic you must be prepared to back up your words. Why do you think it’s pathetic? I think it’s an excellent way of making sure there is no voter fraud as these stains take three days to disappear.
I’d like to see it done in all elections and then we can eliminate double or triple voting by the same person in differing precincts.

I don’t know why they would do it. It’s like when Congress sang the national anthem on the steps of the capital. Pathetic

Or like when they called french fries, freedom fries. Pathetic

Why was that pathetic? They shouldn’t have shown their patriotism after the 9/11 attacks? And it wasn’t the National Anthem, it was “God Bless America”.

Maybe I should have said disgraceful

You always say you’ll stop the discussion when you haven’t explained yourself. Why do you do that?

I will never win an argument with you and Big Mo coming at me at the same time. That sucks but it’s reality.
It bothers me that everyone thinks they have to prove their patriotism. I love this country dearly and would die for it in a heartbeat but I will not go around waving the American flag just prove to others that I am a patriot. I’m just not built that way and I think it’s pathetic when other people do it.
I’m not trying to stop anyone from doing it, I’m only giving my opinion on what it looks like to me. We still have a right to voice our opinion in this country.
I think that explains it. If you need more of an explanation, I don’t have it.

Now I understand. It’s pathetic because all the lefties on the site where you got the information say it is.

J,
I am not a democratic clone. I have a mind of my own. I think you owe me an apology.

I went over to the link you provided and they are all lefties saying all sorts of things that sound in some instances like your opinion.
If you can’t explain why you think it’s pathetic then you shouldn’t say it. There has to be a reason you think it’s pathetic and it’s fine for you to express those reasons here, but expect some blowback when you say “pathetic” and fail to defend the comment.
I apologize to you for the statement I made about you repeating what the commenters were saying. I know you better than that and I also know you are smart enough to tell us your reasons for saying what you said.
Again, I sincerely apologize to you and you are right to expect more than that from me.

I wonder if they will all come out with blue thumbs in the 08 election. Sure they held elections in Iraq but what good did it do? Anyone can have an election but can they act like a civilized people? That isn’t what seems to be going on in Iraq. I don’t think there’s much to be proud of. And no matter how much blue you put on your thumb it isn’t going to make a difference. The killing will go on and the body bags will keep coming home. Maybe it’s time that the president admits that he screwed up. If you really want to show support for the Iraqi election, why not get themselves down to the nearest recruiter and join. I’m sure they would appreciate that more than coloring their thumb blue in some pathetic show of support.

You’re trying to tie this to the Iraq war. I see it as a way to make sure there is no voter fraud. So, yes, we should do that in 2008 along with requiring photo ID. Too many people vote too many times and it can’t be denied.

I’m going to quote from the story what you didn’t quote:

I’ll only accept your apology if you take back every thing you have ever said or will say in the future, that I don’t agree with.
