Remember those days when your children or grandchildren were babies and you thought you would never sleep through the night again? Or those exhausting weeks when you thought each day should be comprised of 48 hours so all the chores could be accomplished, meals cooked and homework completed. How about those years when you felt like you lived out of your car..drop this one off, pick this one up, take all the friends to a dance or a party.
Those of you with children young enough to still be doing all these things sometimes don’t realize how lucky you are. Hold fast to those young years, they disappear all too quickly.
I for one do enjoy my children now that they are grown and successfully on their own. It is rewarding to think you had a hand in raising decent individuals who can think for themselves and cope on their own.
We have wonderful memories though of those childhood days which will never be erased. When I read an article such as this the thoughts of days gone by come roaring back.
She did what she’s done for the past 15 years, take a picture on the front porch of the kids on the first day of school.
The young one, who is not so young these days, posed grudgingly, then got in his car and drove off to his senior year of high school.
It’s like one of those afternoons when the sun’s still shining, but storm clouds are gathering on the horizon. One more year, and then …
I was in my office upstairs, working, when she knocked on our older son’s door and stuck her head in and said goodbye and be safe and I love you. He was going back up to school, to college.
She said so long to me, then headed down the stairs to go to work.
I could hear her crying softly as she went.
The wonderful thing about this piece is that I believe the emotions expressed are probably felt by the majority of parents and yes even grandparents. What’s even better is that it all stems from the undying love we have for our children.
