I have sat back now for a long time and watched as too many decent individuals who have done nothing but give up their private lives and incomes to serve this country be treated in a manner unbecoming of those of us who are citizens of this great country. While I agree the Attorney General did nothing to help his own case during the Senate hearings, there still has been no proof that anything illegal was done by this man or anyone in this administration. As has become the nature of our society, beat the drum loud and strong and eventually you will be believed. That is, unless you are an appointee of the President or the President himself.

Politics have ripped this country to its core but when good people are destroyed because of their party affiliation then it is time for a serious evaluation of our direction.

I am not typically this partisan but I have absolutely had it with this President and his administration being vilified daily in the press and by partisan politicians. It has been said over and over again that this President lied. About what? Just because the press or members of the opposing party say so I must believe it? Sorry, I prefer to think for myself. Some find it acceptable to refer to this president at Hitler. I actually feel sorry for these people as it shows their lack of a grasp of history yet it infuriates me on the other hand that we have in this country been reduced to such hateful drivel.

And headlines, well they are worth nothing anymore. Read the meat of the article and you will find more often than not that the bold print at the top is contradicted by the writer themselves. Unidentified sources, writer opinion and downright repeated lies have reduced a once respected profession to nothing more than a sorry excuse for daily news. Liberal bias spewed in the morning papers is then regurgitated by evening newscasters without any substance for the words spoken with some air of authority which many seem to believe as gospel.

What ever happened to the respect for our nation, the Office of the Presidency, our elected leaders and yes even for ourselves? We have become all to quick to condemn anyone who does not agree with our viewpoint, many times handing out labels which could never apply to each person of any political, ethnic or religious persuasion. What’s next, do we tell our children that our neighbor who may be different in their thinking than us is not to be tolerated?

This is not a rant, it is how I truly feel. Every administration in the history of this country has had those who have served the President and have made mistakes or errors in judgment. Show me one who has not. This President has a capacity for being tolerant of those who hate him. My limit however, has been reached. Call it what you wish, I do not enjoy seeing anyone destroyed just for someone else to score political points and this has happened far too often to this administration.

Much of this hatred and vile comes from those who do not approve of the war on terror..(Yes I can call it that because Iraq is not our only battleground). You may not like war, neither do I, but I understand when it is necessary and so do the majority of the troops. If we go beyond what is force fed to us daily and read the words of the actual soldiers and commanders we find progress is being made. Perhaps it is time we give credit to those doing the heavy lifting and leave our partisanship on the doorstep.

I have never considered myself a person who felt they had to agree with another in order for us to be civil in our dealings. I refuse to always agree with one political party on all points as there is no perfection in this world. Am I a republican by affiliation, yes, but have never been adverse to the ideas of others.

Unfortunately, watching the attitudes and events of the last six years and the treatment of this President has pushed me further away from some independent thinking. It breaks my heart that some believe this is the route which will allow this country to flourish for generations to come. When the tide turns, will I be like so many who have worked to destroy those who have accepted responsibilities many of us could never imagine or handle? I hope not.

I have read this piece several times over and I cannot agree more with it. You have said what I have thought but have been unable to put my thoughts into words.

If, on Tuesday, every Republican office-holder on the national level put in his or her resignation, including the President and Vice-President and allowed the Democrats full control with Nancy Pelosi as our president and Robert Byrd as our vice-president until she can choose one, I wouldn’t blame them one bit.

Let the Democrats run the whole show from now until the next election and then let the people decide how well they have done and if they want them to continue, because all this political fighting is tiresome and sickening.

But I’d be willing to bet even if that happened they would still find a way to fight over almost anything because Washington’s politicians have shown themselves to be a group of children in a huge food-fight.

Good post, Sue, and I support you all the way.

    J,

We certainly do not all agree as to where this country is and should be heading in the future so let’s have that debate without taking everything so personal. When you put all democrats into that nasty little group that is trying to destroy this country, you are including me and I resent that. I do not wish the downfall of this President but I do want him to do what he was hired for.
I voted for him to bring this country together. He has done the exact opposite.
I voted for him to bring honor and integrity back to the Whitehouse. He hasn’t even come close. These are only a few of the reasons that I voted for him and I have been let down on every occasion. I want him to be held accountable for lying to me and everyone else that voted for him and feels cheated.

    Guss,

Please understand when I am talking about Democrats in Washington I am talking about politicians. Politicians who insist the president has lied but can’t seem to make a case for it because if there were a case they would have him before the Senate right now defending himself against impeachment charges.

There are state secrets he cannot tell us, so maybe when he ignores the question or gives a roundabout answer it can be called lying, but he never, ever, said Iraq was responsible for 9/11. He never, ever said an attack from Iraq was imminent. He said he wanted to deal with Iraq before they became an imminent threat. Go back and check the record.

He said Iraq supported al Qaeda and from looking at the airplane at Salmon Pak where Al Qaeda did their training for hijacking planes and the fact Saddam was giving medical care to one of the higher ups in Al Qaeda before he had him killed because things were getting hot, it was proof.

He depended on intelligence reports seen by our last president and his first lady who both agreed there were WMD in Iraq, along with several other Democrats. This was not a lie but a mistake.

He tried to bring us together to the chagrin of Republicans by having Ted Kennedy write the No Child Left Behind Act. He went to the Democratic conference and addressed them his first month in office.

No one has tried harder than this president to bring this country together, but everyone wanted to claim he stole not one but two elections when the evidence showed otherwise. Even the NY Times took part in a recount of Florida, the way Gore wanted it done and still found Bush won the state. They tried every conceivable way to find a way Bush would have lost Florida and were unsuccessful.

The hatred started then and has gone on to calls for his assassination in a fictional movie, to calling him Hitler and saying he is worse than Hitler, to calling him stupid and any other unflattering thing you can think of.

He is doing the job he was elected to do and that is to defend the country against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

I despise the level of public discourse today. It is revolting.

On Saturday, I saw some dude whose T-shirt had a picture of George H. W. Bush with the caption:

“He didn’t pull out in time.”

    What an _______________!

One of the things which drives me crazy Big Mo is the fact that so much of the discourse is driven by those who are supposed to be accomplishing the peoples work.

What a small minded individual it must be especially as an elected official to be driven to destroy the life of another human being.

Well written…it doesn’t matter WHICH party you belong to NO ONE should be treated as members of Bush’s administration and Bush have been treated since day 1. I may not always agree with everything he does or says, and I am sure no one agrees with anyone 100% of the time however, I still respect the fact that he has an enormous responsibility that takes courage to undertake. Guss, many people on the left truly DO hate President Bush. It is amazing and incredible to behold. It is raw, naked and base.
