I had used this as an update in a post yesterday, and for those who may have read it, I apologize for the repitition, but I believe it it is worthy of mention in its’ own setting.
You expect those elected in public office to make statements from time to time which could be regarded as less than well thought out, but this one courtesy of Senator Schumer goes well beyond any I can remember in regard to our United States Military.
“And let me be clear, the violence in Anbar has gone down despite the surge, not because of the surge. The inability of American soldiers to protect these tribes from al Qaeda said to these tribes we have to fight al Qaeda ourselves. It wasn’t that the surge brought peace here. It was that the warlords took peace here, created a temporary peace here.”
Follow the link above to the video available and watch the Senator attempt to make it through these despicable words. If this is an early attempt to attack both the President and General Petraeus prior to next weeks report, then it failed miserably. Not failed in the sense that he did not make his true feelings about our troops known, no, he fully succceeded there. It failed because I believe most Americans have an appreciation for the difficult mission these men and women undertake daily.
Even many who do not support the war come out in support of our troops..but not Senator Schumer.
You sir, are entitled to your opinion as I am in mine, and mine is, this was a shameful display of political posturing at its best but a disgusting rebuke of our troops at its worst.
