No Dismissal in case against Congressman John Murtha »

A Saturday Quiz

There is a short quiz available at WQAD which aligns the taker with the Presidential candidate it finds to be the most suitable match.

I ran across this while reading Jules Crittenden and must say I agree with his thoughts no matter what the results of this quiz produce.

In fact, I’m a one-issue voter. Whoever is not the Democratic candidate. And I expect to vote in the primary for whoever I think has the best shot, regardless of their position on ancillary issues.

There was a time I did not feel that way. If a Democrat presented a platform which I felt would do well by America I would give that person an equal chance to secure my vote. No more. I do not want to see America governed by those beholden to Moveon.org and George Soros.

Anyhow, the quiz is kind of neat so if you get a chance, take a look..who knows maybe you’ll be surprised by the candidate it selects for you. It was dead on right with the candidate I lean towards at this moment.

If I understand you correctly, there are no circumstances under which you would vote for a non-Republican regardless of who wins the GOP nomination. I have 100% unacceptable candidates on both sides. The Republicans who think Giuliani has truly changed his position on gay marriage, abortion on demand and other liberal issues are in for a rude awaking if he takes the oval office. I had high hopes for this blog when it began. Those hopes have been dashed. If the only issue that matters is whether the candidate has a D or an R after his name, then there is no reason to bother with analysis of the issues.

    David:

Yes, at this time, I would not vote for any of the democratic candidates for president.

While both parties have special interest groups which at times control their message, the messages of moveon.org and George Soros are not ones which promote national security.

Therefore, with the candidates on the left pandering to these groups, I find the party focused more on entitlements which will make no difference if we have no country in which to use them.

I am sorry if you feel that there is no room for debate on issues. I am also a bit confused as I have taken republicans to task on issues in which I disagree and will continue to do so. I might not vote for a democrat but I do not find perfection on the other side of the aisle either.

    David,

I’m sorry you had high hopes for this blog and they didn’t work out. I had high hopes we could be a bipartisan blog and get along, but the getting along part is where it fell apart so I gave Guss his own site so he can write whatever he wishes to write about Republicans or Democrats and Sue and I can feel free to express our opinions about how we feel about the issues of the day.

I don’t know how often you visit, but we have taken Republicans to task also, and we will continue to do so when we need to.

Sue and I will never vote for a Democrat for president because we both feel they are not representative of what we believe.

Both of us have voted for down ticket democrats in the past and probably will again, so to say we will vote only a straight Republican ticket is a misinterpretation of what was said.

I hope this clears up your questions, and again I’m sorry you have been disappointed by the direction we have ultimately taken, but it was impossible to endure the daily fights over every post and I made a decision to change it.

I will weigh the Republican candidates, as will Sue. The social positions are important to both of us, but if the nominee is strong on national defense and weak on social issues I will opt for national defense every time. Not many presidents have been able to push an abortion issue and I pray no one will take away the right of the ststes to regulate marriage.

Thanks for a more though expanation. I do visit daily, btw (or nearly). To be completely frank–I can’t find a candidate and after what seems an interminable lenght of campaigning, I’m getting very frustrated. I mean seriously–I don’t like ANY of the candidates!

Oh-on the poll-my candidate is at the bottom and I would never vote for him. I think my problem was several of the issues were not important to me (I can’t remember the exact wording). J knows illegal immigration is not a hot topic in my state. We’ve been speaking Spanish since 1594 and have 15.4% Native Americans. I typically hear 5 languages a day at work. We’re a poor state, so we never had a boom economy. Therefore, we never get a “bust” either. The housing market is still strong and jobs are plentiful. Illegal immigration just isn’t important in my state. I was faced with several similar questions in that poll.
My senior senator is determined to run again in 2008. He’s getting very feeble. I saw him at a restaurant last night and he needed help opening the door. He now has a fulltime permanet aide. I also happened to him speak a few weeks ago and he kept losing his train of thought. He won the last election by 71% and is polling 41% today against a political novice. He broke with the President on the war in June and then went back to Washington and voted with the GOP. Now, I understand these votes, but I don’t think most people do. I’m a Vietnam vet and I know what happens when the American people turn against a war–they will not be won back by “the surge is working.” Our flag is flying at half-staff far too often and that’s what they see.
When a Democrat advocates a phased withdrawal, it works politically. When a Republican does the same thing, it’s seen as the same old rheteric. Every veto of the President is used against him if it relates to the war. I don’t care if you can win this war militarily (and we will not), you can’t win it politically. We won’t win it militarily because Iraq cannot be stabilized on a permanent basis. Leave or stay–it doesn’t matter–chaos reigns.

I believe we actually won militarily in the first 3 weeks of the war. It’s the peace that is elusive.

I can’t find a candidate I’m crazy about either but I have to weigh what’s important to me. Right now someone who will work hard to keep our country safe is going to be the one I support. I am concerned about the social issues as a Christian, but I have never seen a president come through on any promises about abortion etc. I am for lower taxes and help for people who really need it, but not for higher taxes to pay health insurance costs for families that earn as much as $83,000 a year.

I want someone who is going to do something about making Social Security solvent and not just for a short time, and I want a choice in my medical care and not socialized medicine.

I don’t see any of this in the Democratic candidates and have not yet listened to a Republican debate with all the candidates participating.

Thank you for your last comment, David. I knew you just misunderstood what Sue said and she is a wonderful person. Not anything like a person we both know who is full of snark. When she writes she researches and speaks from her heart.

That’s a strangely worded quiz, but at least Hillary, Obama and Edwards each scored a 3 on mine and were at the bottom.:)
