		<description>This was the first campaign I was actively involved with.  I did polling calls from home (you wouldn't believe the reams of printouts of people to call).  I was then on the phones at the phone banks, pushing Gov. Holshouser as a person who would make a good governor (they didn't particularly like him but mentioned him) talked about what a great senator Helms was or would be (I forget if this was his first campaign or not) and praised Reagan to the high heavens.

When the primary day arrived we gathered at headquarters to see the returns and were thrilled Reagan had pulled out his first primary victory, even though he was defeated for the nomination.  I still love Reagan as much as I did then, if not more.</description>
