For Those Who Think Stark’s Words Were Wonderful

Nancy Pelosi has rebuked Pete Stark for his comments Thursday saying the president gets amusement from seeing our troops killed:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rebuked a fellow San Francisco Bay-area liberal Friday for what she said were “inappropriate” comments about Iraq during a congressional debate.
During a debate on children’s health care Thursday, Rep. Pete Stark accused Republicans of sending troops to Iraq to “get their heads blown off for the president’s amusement.”

Condemnations rolled in from Republican politicians, right-leaning bloggers had a field day, and a White House spokesman declined to “dignify those remarks” with a response.

Pelosi issued a statement Friday evening rapping Stark, who is in his 18th term representing the liberal East Bay. He’s California’s longest-serving House members.

“While members of Congress are passionate about their views, what Congressman Stark said during the debate was inappropriate and distracted from the seriousness of the subject at hand—providing health care for America’s children,” Pelosi said.

Take a look at the sidebar and you will see the winning bid for Rush Limbaugh’s EBay auction of the letter of condemnation by Harry Reid and some of his cohorts.

The winning bid was $2,100,100, and Rush will match that amount to go to this worthy cause.

How do you like them apples, Mr. Reid? Your letter actually helped military and law enforcement families.

We will take down the widget on Monday so everyone has a chance to see the winning bid.

Rush is also selling signed copies for $1,000 each to anyone who wants to donate. Go to his site to get yours.

Senator Reid has effectively done nothing since becoming Senate Majority Leader. Nothing but insult the President of the United States, provide soundbites for a willing press and attempt a takedown of conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh.

Sadly for the Senator, none of those things have worked in his favor.

The President is still at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the press, while it laps up his words, really has not given the Senator much credit for anything (there really is nothing to give credit for) and Rush Limbaugh just beat him at his own game.

I think the Leader also missed another important point. There are many conservatives who do not listen to talk radio or talking heads on television. But this maneuver by Reid and his fellow Senators, purely for politics, awakened many to support Limbaugh who otherwise pay little attention.

Instead of saying congratulations on the amazing amount raised by Rush, Mr. Reid tries to turn the tables and take credit for what is not his:

NOW, EVERYONE KNOWS THAT RUSH LIMBAUGH AND I DON’T AGREE ON EVERYTHING IN LIFE AND MAYBE THAT IS KIND OF AN UNDERSTATEMENT. BUT WITHOUT QUALIFICATION MARK MAY, THE OWNER OF THE NETWORK THAT HAS RUSH LIMBAUGH AND RUSH LIMBAUGH SHOULD KNOW THAT THIS LETTER THAT THEY’RE AUCTIONING IS GOING TO BE SOMETHING THAT RAISES MONEY FOR A WORTHWHILE CAUSE. I DON’T KNOW WHAT WE COULD DO MORE IMPORTANT THAN HELPING TO ENSURE THAT CHILDREN OF OUR FALLEN SOLDIERS AND POLICE OFFICERS WHO HAVE FALLEN IN THE LINE OF DUTY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR THEIR CHILDREN TO HAVE A GOOD EDUCATION. THINK OF THIS, MORE THAN $2 MILLION — THAT WILL REALLY HELP. THAT’S, AGAIN, AN UNDERSTATEMENT. THERE’S ONLY A LITTLE BIT OF TIME LEFT SO I WOULD ASK THOSE THAT ARE WANTING TO DO MORE, THAT THEY CAN GO TO HARRY REID LETTER AND IT WILL COME UP ON E-BAY. I ENCOURAGE ANYONE INTERESTED WITH THE MEANS TO CONSIDER CONTRIBUTING TO THIS WORTHWHILE CAUSE. I STRONGLY BELIEVE WHEN WE CAN PUT OUR DIFFERENCES ASIDE, EVEN HARRY REID AND RUSH LIMBAUGH, WE SHOULD DO THAT AND TRY TO ACCOMPLISH GOOD THINGS FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. THIS DOES THAT, MADAM PRESIDENT. MORE THAN $2 MILLION FOR A LETTER SIGNED BY THIS SENATOR AND MY FRIENDS.

What a bloated ego this man has. He thinks people were bidding on this letter because his signature was on it…Mr. “the war is lost” Reid, let me give you a clue. This had nothing to do with you and everything to do with Rush, his supporters and the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Fund. If you are so pleased with the outcome how about you pony up and match the funds raised?

Now that the Senator has been made to look a fool over this entire incident, he wants to be friends with Rush Limbaugh …he says they can do good things together. Perhaps he should have thought of that before he took to the Senate floor and attempted to destroy the career of another man.

*Update: ABC News apears to live in the same fantasy land as Senator Reid.

The bidding ends at 1:00p.m. No mater what, Democrats are going to make a ton of money for a charity off their political vitriol.

Unbelieveable!

And you thought Silly String was just for kids

How fortunate are the troops to have one among their ranks with a Mom like this:

DEPTFORD TOWNSHIP, N.J. – After months of frustration, a mother of a soldier in Iraq has found someone to ship about 80,000 cans of Silly String to the troops, who use the foamy substance to detect trip wires on bombs.

“I am so happy right now, I am shaking. I just think it’s awesome that it’s finally going,” Marcelle Shriver said as boxes were loaded into a truck Monday afternoon.

And huge kudos to the company that came through not only for Ms. Shriver but for all those men and women in uniform whose lives could be saved by this Silly String.

Thom Campbell, one of the founders of Capacity LLC, a New Jersey-based shipping company experienced in hazardous materials, heard about Shriver’s problem and decided to help out.

I have no hazardous materials to ship, but if I did, I would make every effort to support this gentleman and his business.

As for how this product is utilized by the military..well have a look:

Soldiers can shoot the substance, which travels about 10-12 feet, across a room before entering. If it hangs in the air, that indicates a possible trip wire.

What a terrific story. Silly String, who would have thought….?

Friday fly-by

At first I thought this was a joke, no really, I did. Via Slate:

Dredge your overstuffed furniture. Scrape the bottom of your purse. Shatter your kid’s piggy bank. Do what ever it takes to find $500 for a ticket to the Churchill Centre’s Oct. 25 fund-raising dinner at the Willard so you can witness the presentation of the Emery Reves Award to Chris Matthews for lifetime achievement in journalism.

Well if Chris Matthews symbolizes journalism standards of today then we are in a whole heap of trouble. Oh well.

Here’s a bit of a refresher course from the Hillary Project: “Seven Things To Know About the Clintons”

An interesting read and one of the things I’d forgotten was how many on the Democratic side had in the past, made less than gracious comments about the former first couple:

Very little of this has escaped the notice of journalists and of Democratic leaders. Yet, after every scandal they forget their public denunciations of the Clintons. Here are some flavorous reminders. After the Clintons and their siblings were caught in the 42nd president’s last-minute pardon scandal, Jimmy Carter called them “disgraceful.” Robert Reich opined that “Clinton is utterly disgraced.” Al Hunt called Clinton the “albatross” of his party who should “drop dead.” Al Gore’s campaign manager, Donna Brazile wrote in the New York Times that “It’s time to let Bill Clinton go — go on and live the rest of his life and allow a new generation of Democratic leaders to renew their fight on behalf of working families in America.” New York Times columnist Bob Herbert affirmed that “Bill Clinton has been a disaster for the Democratic Party. Send him packing. It’s time for the Democratic Party to wise up. Ostracism would be a good first step. Bill Clinton should be cut completely loose….some of Mr. Clinton’s closest associates and supporters are acknowledging what his enemies have argued for years –the man is so thoroughly corrupt it is frightening.”

Looks like the Democratic party in Pennsylvania might have a bit of explaining to do.

Files seized from a Democratic House research office were laden with campaign and other political documents, according to a judge who reviewed them.

Contents of the 20 boxes were “overwhelmingly and patently non-legislative in nature,” said Judge Barry Feudale, who allowed the documents to be considered in a grand jury investigation into whether taxpayer-funded resources were used to run elections. The grand jury also is looking into whether state employees received substantial state bonuses for work on political campaigns.

I wonder, will this become a national story if the grand jury returns indictments?

For those who may have missed it, it sems Rudy Giuliani has a few enemies, and they reside in New York.

All presidential candidates have some element of hometown opposition—constituents angry about a factory closing, politicians spiteful about losing a bill or an election. But no candidate engenders as much local animus as Mr. Giuliani, whose terms as mayor were characterized by a series of spectacular running battles with various, mostly liberal constituencies.

For the first months of his candidacy for president, prominent progressives in New York mocked the notion that a pro-choice, immigration-friendly serial husband with a history of opposition to guns would have a shot at the Republican nomination.

But now, with Mr. Giuliani up nearly 10 percentage points in national polls and unexpectedly competitive in the early primary states of New Hampshire and South Carolina, a mixture of nervousness and disbelief is running through the ranks of his old antagonists.

Sometimes that which seems impossible is that which materializes. Could that be the case with Rudy?

And finally.

An interesting piece from Newsmax.

Call it “Bloggergate” — the subversion of the blogosphere by Democrat money.

To be more precise, Bloggergate is the subsidizing of left-wing bloggers with illegal Democrat campaign contributions, laundered through ostensibly “non-partisan” non-profit groups.

At a convention of left-wing bloggers last summer, Hillary Clinton announced, “We are . . . putting together a network in the blogosphere.”

Her remarks became public only three weeks ago, on Oct. 2, when an anonymous person posted a shaky, hand-held videotape of her speech on YouTube. In it, Hillary bragged that she had helped create “institutions” which had produced a left-wing “network in the blogosphere” capable of “matching” the alleged “advantage of the other side.”

Hillary’s claim raises troubling questions. On a practical level, just how exactly does a U.S. senator go about exerting her power to stack the blogosphere in her favor?

This article contains some very thought provoking information. Will anything come of the indiscretions mentioned, well, here are the authors’ thoughts:

It remains to be seen whether the IRS and the Federal Election Commission will blow the whistle on Hillary’s army of paid bloggers. Who knows? They just might. But I’m not holding my breath.

Indeed.

Hope you found something here that peaked your interest on this final workday of the week for most.

*Meant to mention earlier, ~J~ was a bit under the weather last evening so two of these articles she forwarded on to me. The Giuliani piece and the final piece on Hillary Clinton were of particular interest to her. In the interest of time, I hope she doesn’t mind that I slipped them into the fly-by as she might have devoted far more time to them.*

Free copies of the Limbaugh/Reid letter now available

Rush Limbaugh not only will raise a ton of money for a very important cause, but has now made the famous letter available to all who would like to print it for themselves free of charge, or make a donation no matter the size, to the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Fund:

It’s gotten to… You know, $65,100 now is unaffordable for a whole lot of people, so what we have done is put a PDFfile of all four pages of the letter in blazing, brilliant full color, suitable for free download. Many people have said, “Hey, I can’t afford that $65,000, but I’d love to donate something to the MC-LEF for a copy.” Well, you can do that, but you don’t have to donate in order to get it. We want as many people to have a copy of this letter as possible. It’s the United States Senate’s official smear of a private citizen. I know I’m a public figure, but I’m a private citizen. I’m not a politician. I’m not running for office. I have no influence over what government does in terms of having votes there. I’m not a candidate for anything. So that’s the distinction. I’m working in the private sector. The Constitution is supposed to protect people like me, all of you, from this type of action from the federal government. That’s what’s so historic about this, and whoever does end up being the high bidder for the Harry Reid letter is going to have a genuine historic document, with all those signatures. You’ve got Ted Kennedy on there, Barack Obama, Chris Dodd, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Imagine what Rush must be thinking now that the value of this letter is simply skyrocketing.

I know that many families will benefit from the money raised in this endeavor and for that I am very grateful to Mr. Limbaugh. Well Done!

My Life in a Song

I’m still suffering the after-effects of the Niaspan. The room is spinning now, but I wanted to share this with you.

This is the story of my life:

Thank you, Jesus, for touching me and my family. I am forever grateful and one day You will give me the words to adequately express my joy and love for You.

Move America Forward takes Berkeley by storm

Berkeley, California may never be the same.

Mark this day down folks. It was Wednesday, October 17, 2007 that hundreds of pro-troop supporters turned out for a giant pro-troop rally in Berkeley, CA (one of the most anti-military & anti-war cities in this nation). Not only did the size of the rally shock the San Francisco Bay Area news media, it surprised the anti-war activists at Code Pink who were outnumbered on their own turf!.

Don’t miss the photos and videos of this counter-protest here. Patriotism and support of the troops in full display in this anit-military town. How heartwarming.

Thank you Move America Forward and all other organizations involved in this endeavor. Your support not only of the troops but of American values is appreciated by many.
