Thursday Evening Fox News GOP Debate
Watched the GOP debate this evening on Fox and here is how I would rate the performance of each candidate:
Tied for 1st: Thompson and McCain
2nd: Huckabee with Giuliani a close 3rd
4th: Romney and bringing up the rear, Ron Paul
Here are the results from the Frank Luntz focus group:
I remain uncommitted at this juncture. I do believe that if Thompson loses South Carolina his campaign is in serious trouble, however, it has been proven in the past that Super Tuesday has the ability to produce huge surprises.
This particular line from Thompson did reinforce the feeling I have that he would be strong on National Security..it also showed a bit of humor:
Placing Romney 4th in this debate was due primarily to the fact that he appeared once again very rehearsed and repetitive. At this juncture, he and Giuliani are faced with that same problem in my opinion.
There was not much new information garnered this evening. The candidates repeated the positions they have articulated throughout.
The biggest difference in this debate vs. so many of the others was that Fred finally injected himself in a way that could make this race even more volitile than it is at present.
