I have great admiration for the former First Lady.
Mrs. Bush has always handled herself with grace and it was always obvious that family was extremely important to her.
It seems as though little has changed in reading the exchanges in this interview:
On the difference between being wife of President George H.W. Bush and mother of President George W. Bush: “It hurts much more if your son’s president. My husband … he’s in agony half the time.”
“You hear people say things that are untrue and unfair. It really hurts. George W. doesn’t watch the press. He’ll call us … (and say) ‘I hear the TV, turn it off.’”
It is rare we hear much from the former First Family as I believe that they recognize that their small imprint on the history of this country is just that.
They have the capacity to move on and enjoy their lives knowing they gave all they could to the service of this nation.
The balance of this interview offers Mrs. Bush’s thoughts on foreign leaders, her relationship with her husband and a bit on her days in the White House.
