Mr. Strata praises the President.
I thank Mr. Strata for putting eloquently into words what so many of us feel:
America is blessed - very blessed. We have had an amazing leader who believes in the wisdom of ‘we the people’. Through 7 years of attack from within and without. from across the aisle and from those too obsessed with purity in his party, President Bush has been a stalwart gentleman who has maintained dignity and honor for his office as those around him have collapsed into angry rants. The nation is going to miss George W Bush.
His SOTU speech tonight was probably his best. And it rested upon 7 years of accomplishments only his enemies, in hopes of diminishing him, will never recognize. He has shown that being a lame duck with a veto pen is a might powerful position to be in. He has promised to veto tax increases and uncontrolled earmarks. He will direct no efforts be spent on earmarks that had no debate or public vote in Congress.

Agreed. He’s a standout president who is much hated — not just disliked, but HATED — because he makes tough decisions while everyone else talks, debates, whines and moans.
Has he always made the right ones? Nope. Hey, neither did Reagan. Neither did Truman. Neither did Lincoln.
But you know what? When Ronnie went back home, he was entirely comfortable in his own skin. He had nothing to prove. So will it be with Bush. He did his best and will continue to do his best until his successor is sworn in. I’m proud to be one of his supporters, even if our numbers are now diminished.
The man is unbended, and his enemies aren’t worth spit. They’ve never understood him and they never will. They hate him because he does what they can’t and won’t. They hate him because they can;t phase him. They hate him because he’s succeeded in doing what Reagan and even Nixon couldn’t do: drive them absolutely freaking crazy.

That is a great line Big Mo! I got my laugh for the day.
While poll numbers might show that support for this President has waned (and I agree that it has), I often question if it is quite as weak as we are led to believe.
I think most people have benefited from a strong economy over the past several years and some understand that his actions militarily have left them to sleep soundly each night.
He has certainly made more than one mistake (show me someone who hasn’t) or focused on policy which even his staunchest supporters questioned, but on the whole he has handled the Office with complete dignity.
