President Bush in Rare Form

Give a listen to President Bush perform his own rendition of the “Green, Green, Grass of Home.”

I only wish we could see him clearly (more than that I would have loved to have been there.)

Sure to make you laugh (or at least smile) regardless of your political preference.

Enjoy!

HT: Macsmind where I first viewed a similiar video which prompted me to check if there was a longer version.

How Low Will They Go?

Will Mrs. Clinton ask Ms. Ferraro to step down from her advisory campaign position for the following remarks?

Clinton campaign finance committee member, former vice presidential candidate, and former Rep. Geraldine Ferraro, D-NY, told the Daily Breeze of Torrance, Ca., that, “If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.”

Of Clinton, Ferraro said that the press “has been uniquely hard on her. It’s been a very sexist media. Some just don’t like her. The others have gotten caught up in the Obama campaign.”

There are many reasons why the race is close on the Democratic side and perhaps race is one of them, but for Ms. Ferraro to imply that the only reason Senator Obama has achieved success this primary season is that he is a man of color, well I find that despicable.

For Mrs. Clinton, the candidate, to not disavow this statement and relieve Mrs. Ferraro of her duties would only serve to strengthen the perception that she wishes to use the race card in this presidential election. Remember, the former President made this attempt also and it failed miserably.

I hope there are enough of us in this country who are color blind and are searching for the person who best suits the office and the interests of America. When race has to be interjected to explain a loss (such as those Mrs. Clinton has suffered) it takes on the look of desperation.

Let’s pose this question..why is it okay for the Clinton camp to constantly push the fact that her support heavily depends on women but not feel that African Americans have the same right to lean towards Senator Obama?

As for the press, the Clinton’s have enjoyed years of favorable coverage. If both Mrs. Clinton and the former President are so revered, then this nomination should have been a cake walk.
Negative press should have mobilized even more voters to come out for the Senator as most do not appreciate the press attempting to influence elections.

Mrs. Clinton has found herself in a battle she never fathomed. She has, for whatever reason not run the tight campaign most thought she would. That is not Senator Obama’s problem. He has done a masterful job of holding off one of the most powerful political machines in this country.

And no Ms. Ferraro, I don’t think it is because he is African American, maybe it’s just because a percentage of the electorate believe he is the right man for the job.

Check here for the Obama campaign response to these remarks and the statement of Howard Wolfson of the Clinton camp.

Pretty lame Mr. Wolfson, pretty lame.

Makes Sense to Me

It seems that it’s going to be impossible for either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama to enter the convention in Denver in August and have enough delegates already to win the nomination.

It looks as though it will come down to the superdelegates, those upper-echelon of the Democratic Party who have it in their power to make back-room deals where neither candidate wins but someone else (Al Gore) is drafted.

Hillary Clinton is fighting for all she’s worth and is trying to figure out a way to get Obama to make a mistake that would be fatal to his candidacy, and then holds out hope that he could be her vice-presidential running mate.

While I can’t figure out the game, I never fail to give her credit and if there’s a way, even if it means the Democrats lose this year so she can come back in four years, she will do it.

Here’s what Obama thinks of his being the vice-presidential candidate:

Makes sense to me, but never underestimate the political power of a Clinton, even if it means destroying their party.

Tuesday Tid-Bits

New Idea magazine has done the right thing and apologized for their story which disclosed the deployment of Prince Harry:

“We did not knowingly breach any embargo and were not party to any agreement for a media blackout on the story,” New Idea says.

“However, and more importantly, we do acknowledge that our actions in publishing the story can be reasonably viewed as insensitive and irresponsible.”

The magazine says it acknowledges and regrets “the distress and anxiety felt by readers” over the revelations.

“We regret this serious lapse of judgment,” it says.

“We sincerely apologise to all our readers, to the servicemen whose lives are at constant risk while serving at home and abroad and to their families and loved ones.”

Good for them!

A womens police force graduation….. in Iran: (complete with video)

Women, generally speaking, may be badly oppressed in Iran’s Islamic republic. But the country’s female police officers are free — free to climb walls, free to fire AKs from moving cop cars, free to set off bombs, free punch someone in the grill, and, of course, free to take down perps.

If it were not for the damage caused, this would really be funny:

An unfortunate Canada goose knocked out power to a sewage treatment plant Saturday, causing about 93,750 gallons of raw sewage to spill into the Willamette River in Milwaukie.

The wayward bird flew into a power pole on Saturday evening, knocking off the power and killing the bird. Power to a pump station at the Oak Lodge Sanitary District wastewater treatment plant was knocked off at 7:04 p.m., said plant manager J. Michael Read.

Yep..one unfortunate, dead goose.

Another amazing account from Michael Yon:

You’d likely have a hard time picking a Guitar Hero out of a crowd. They might look like ordinary folks, but appearances can be deceiving. These men and this woman are engaged in very dangerous combat, going literally eye to eye with the enemy and defeating him nearly every time. And it’s important to note that the enemy is a worthy adversary and this is not a turkey shoot.

Michael has not posted many lengthy dispatches since his return to Iraq. “Guitar Heroes” is a bit of a read though, and well worth the time.

A little while back I posted the rough version of this video from Greyhawk at Mudville Gazette.

The audio has been improved in this original composition and it is made even better with the insertion of a few photos taken by none other than Michael Yon:

From the time I began this project I knew I wanted to include Mike Yon’s iconic photo of Major Mark Bieger and Farah. Yesterday I emailed him for permission – his response was quick: “yes you can use that photo!.”

Of course, I then realized Mike had a second photo that represented the other end of the spectrum of experiences of Americans in Iraq, one he’d used as the centerpiece of his story Thanks and Praise. Permission for that one followed, and I’ve nothing but thanks and praise for Mike.

I hope you enjoy the new, improved version (3) of “The Free and The Brave.” Oh, and by the way, Happy Birthday Mudville Gazette.<:-p
