Tuesday Tid-Bits
New Idea magazine has done the right thing and apologized for their story which disclosed the deployment of Prince Harry:
“We did not knowingly breach any embargo and were not party to any agreement for a media blackout on the story,” New Idea says.
“However, and more importantly, we do acknowledge that our actions in publishing the story can be reasonably viewed as insensitive and irresponsible.”
The magazine says it acknowledges and regrets “the distress and anxiety felt by readers” over the revelations.
“We regret this serious lapse of judgment,” it says.
“We sincerely apologise to all our readers, to the servicemen whose lives are at constant risk while serving at home and abroad and to their families and loved ones.”
Good for them!
A womens police force graduation….. in Iran: (complete with video)
Women, generally speaking, may be badly oppressed in Iran’s Islamic republic. But the country’s female police officers are free — free to climb walls, free to fire AKs from moving cop cars, free to set off bombs, free punch someone in the grill, and, of course, free to take down perps.
If it were not for the damage caused, this would really be funny:
An unfortunate Canada goose knocked out power to a sewage treatment plant Saturday, causing about 93,750 gallons of raw sewage to spill into the Willamette River in Milwaukie.
The wayward bird flew into a power pole on Saturday evening, knocking off the power and killing the bird. Power to a pump station at the Oak Lodge Sanitary District wastewater treatment plant was knocked off at 7:04 p.m., said plant manager J. Michael Read.
Yep..one unfortunate, dead goose.
Another amazing account from Michael Yon:
You’d likely have a hard time picking a Guitar Hero out of a crowd. They might look like ordinary folks, but appearances can be deceiving. These men and this woman are engaged in very dangerous combat, going literally eye to eye with the enemy and defeating him nearly every time. And it’s important to note that the enemy is a worthy adversary and this is not a turkey shoot.
Michael has not posted many lengthy dispatches since his return to Iraq. “Guitar Heroes” is a bit of a read though, and well worth the time.
A little while back I posted the rough version of this video from Greyhawk at Mudville Gazette.
The audio has been improved in this original composition and it is made even better with the insertion of a few photos taken by none other than Michael Yon:
From the time I began this project I knew I wanted to include Mike Yon’s iconic photo of Major Mark Bieger and Farah. Yesterday I emailed him for permission - his response was quick: “yes you can use that photo!.”
Of course, I then realized Mike had a second photo that represented the other end of the spectrum of experiences of Americans in Iraq, one he’d used as the centerpiece of his story Thanks and Praise. Permission for that one followed, and I’ve nothing but thanks and praise for Mike.
I hope you enjoy the new, improved version (3) of “The Free and The Brave.” Oh, and by the way, Happy Birthday Mudville Gazette.![]()

It’s good the magazine apologized, but now the Muslims will have Harry in their sites for the rest of his life. They put him and his entire unit in danger and no apology will make up for it.

Media has a way of never having to say they’re sorry. Yes, what they did was despicable but for them to publicly acknowledge their wrongdoing is so unusual that it should be recognized.
Would I have cancelled my subscription to this magazine had I had one..yes. Would this apology be enough to make me again a reader..no, but I do think it is fair to show that at least there is an instance where those in the media have a conscience.
