David did an excellent job analyzing this story and not saying a bad thing about anyone. And no sarcasm! That’s what we strive for here.

You know, when I first heard the remarks, I could never see the connection between being “bitter” and clinging to religion and guns. To me, they sounded like words being mouthed, words with no meaning, words that were supposed to sound brilliant but were instead empty. You’ve confirmed very eloquently what I sensed.

And, by the way, I also question the word “bitter”. I think downtrodden is a better word for how people might be feeling. Bitter connotes (to me anyway) envy (coveting?), anger, jealousy, feelings that shouldn’t exist (10 commandments) for someone “clinging” to religion.

I think Obama’s remarks reflect his sphere of influence, which is only natural.
