Will History Be As Kind To The President As This Professor?

President Bush has not been Conservative enough for some.

For others he has been nothing more than a man who stole an election with the assistance of the United States Supreme Court.

He has been vilified for his handling of the Iraq war, sometimes deservedly so, but it you read, really read the words of those who have served in both Iraq and Afghanistan, most seem to have a clear sense of exactly what their mission has been. I’m not speaking of the arm chair Generals who conduct war from a television studio, but those who have seen the horrors and triumphs.

Through it all and with all his mortal faults (show me any President who does not have them, or any man or woman for that matter), I have remained a supporter of Mr. Bush and there has always remained one central reason why..National Security. My position has never wavered on this and no doubt never will..it is not a matter of fear, it is a matter of this country’s survival.

It came as quite a surprise to run across this article penned by a New York City resident who did not vote for the President in either 2000 or 2004:

With President Bush-bashing still a national pastime, it’s notable how much international terrorism has been forgotten, and how little credit the president has received for keeping Americans safe.

This is a difficult issue for me. I didn’t vote for President Bush – twice. And as a human-rights law professor, the events at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay, along with various elements of the Patriot Act and the National Security Agency’s wiretapping of Americans, are all greatly troubling to me.

Yet I live in Manhattan and I was present on Sept. 11, 2001 – admittedly 100 blocks from the murder scene, but I was here, trembling along with the rest of America. Remember those days?

Mr. Rosenbaum gets it. Very few speak of the President and his determination to carry out his primary responsibility. Does anyone honestly believe that if not for his steadfastness in the fight against terrorism we would not have been attacked again, possibly more than once?

Perhaps historians will understand the perils we faced over the past decades. It is my belief the terrorists understand that this time they chose the wrong man to “take on,” and the Professor appears to agree:

Yes, there are those who maintain that our promiscuous misadventures in Iraq, Afghanistan and Israel have rendered America even less safe. That the president has further radicalized our enemies and alienated our nation. That the animosity for America now, improbably, runs even deeper. Whatever resentments and aspirations gave rise to 9/11 have grown and will not be easily dissipated. For this reason, no one should draw comfort in the relative safety of our shores.

Maybe so. But when a professed enemy succeeds as wildly as al Qaeda did on 9/11, and seven years pass without an incident, there are two reasonable conclusions: Either, despite all the trash-talking videos, they have been taking a long, leisurely breather; or, something serious has been done to thwart and disable their operations. Whatever combination of psychology and insanity motivates a terrorist to blow himself up is not within my range of experience, but I’m betting the aggressive measures the president took, and the unequivocal message he sent, might have had something to do with it.

Americans, admittedly, have short time horizons and, perhaps, even shorter attention spans. Our collective memory has historically been poor. But had there been another terrorist attack or, even worse, a dozen more in cities all over America – a fear that would not have been exaggerated on 9/12 – would we have allowed ourselves the luxury of quarreling over legally suspect counterterrorism measures, even though such internal debates are credits to our liberal democracy and constitutional freedoms?

Soldiers Mom links to a new website with valuable information for the parents of those in the Armed Forces either in the process of being deployed or already in theatre.

Deployment is a stressful time not only for those in uniform but also for their families.

It’s like a one stop shop for history buffs and researchers alike.

Rick Moran lays out his thoughts on an Obama Presidency in this piece entitled Embrace the Horror.

This was my Read of the Week, not because I necessarily believe that Senator Obama has a lock on the White House but if he secures the nomination and is elected in November, I agree 100% with the following two paragraphs:

The next 4 years will see the US tested as perhaps it hasn’t been since the end of World War II. Our alliances, our security, our leadership in the world – all will present enormous problems for the next Commander in Chief. Couple that with a moribund economy and a restless citizenry searching for a unity of purpose and you have perhaps the most daunting challenges a new chief executive will have faced at least since Reagan and possibly since FDR.

I know one thing. Obama will be the only president we have. Doing everything we can to support him – at least as far as our consciences allow – could make the difference between success and failure.

Long ago when I was in grade school we had health classes. I can remember both boys and girls being embarrassed by many topics which were broached by our teachers. By today’s standards those teachings were nothing.

One school, however has a teacher who has gone well beyond what should be taught in a school environment (at least in my opinion.)

Warning: If you have children of school age, you may not wish for them to view the material in this piece.

Middle-schoolers at Fort Herriman Middle School in Utah had a, well, interesting lesson plan waiting for them which made their parents furious. They were taught all about sex! Europe, here we come…

Harvey Korman Has Passed Away

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Harvey Korman, the tall, versatile comedian who won four Emmys for his outrageously funny contributions to “The Carol Burnett Show” and on the big screen in “Blazing Saddles,” died Thursday. He was 81.

Korman died at UCLA Medical Center after suffering complications from the rupture of an abdominal aortic aneurysm four months ago, his family said in a statement released by the hospital.

Mr. Korman is probably best remembered (as the above article states) as a member of the ensemble on “The Carol Burnett Show” but the following video is a performance with Danny Kaye when he was a part of the cast of “The Danny Kaye Show.”

How Can a School Allow a Teacher to Do This to a Child?

The teacher should be fired and the administration fired also for not doing anything about it. The teacher didn’t think she did anything wrong? Where did she get her teaching certificate? From the JC Penney catalog?

I hope the mother does sue and the teacher and administrators are the ones required to pay for any psychological damage done to any of the children–especially Alex and his friend who was forced to vote him out of the class.

He Looked Beyond My Faults and Saw My Need

I have just returned from Wednesday night services at my church.

For a couple of months I have felt that I was not walking with God as closely as I once did. I have prayed and asked God to give me back my tears of love I felt when I first met Jesus.

My neighbor has also been going through the same thing and we confessed it to one another just last week and started praying for each other, though I wasn’t sure my prayers were going any higher than the ceiling.

Tonight we had the most unusual communion service I have ever attended. Instead of the deacons serving communion to us, we went to the altar in two groups of eight at a time, with the senior pastor at one table and the associate pastor at the other table.

We actually broke bread and then the pastor asked one of the men to pray. We then ate that bread, the symbol of Christ’s body. We went through the same ceremony with the grape juice (no wine for Baptists) while the pastor quoted scripture again and had one of the other men pray. Then we drank the juice.

All the while this was going on music was being played by the bell choir or being sung by a soloist who was then joined by the congregation.

All the music that touched me so deeply as a child–”The Old Rugged Cross”, “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross”, “Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?” and others that seemed to move me with each one, until I had to quit singing and just started crying. Not little tears but giant, shaking sobs of regret and re-dedication to my Lord and Savior, who gave up Passover until He can have it with us in Heaven.

God gave me back my tears and now I feel as though I can walk on clouds and I feel emotionally drained all at the same time. In other words, I have been given the privilege of falling in love with Jesus all over again, and I wanted to share it with you.

The last song was not the usual “Blest Be the Tie That Binds” but was “Victory in Jesus” instead and one could feel the Holy Spirit moving in that sanctuary as people went forward to pray and re-dedicate their lives.

What a wonderful joy! He looked beyond my faults and saw my need. And He filled that need. Praise God!

The Myth About Oil – What Congress Doesn’t Want You to Know

I asked my good friend COgirl to write a piece about our current energy crisis. She is proficient in the field as she and her husband are engineers who have worked in the field their entire careers.

I wish to thank her for taking the time to write this post.

Here is her unedited post:

The Congressional hearings last week with oil company executives were a big joke. The question is whether or not the American public is smart enough to see through it all or whether or not they can push the media views aside to see the truth.

Prices are set in the world market which many people in the U.S. do not realize also includes other countries such as China and India., i.e., the world does not revolve around us. There is a strong correlation between economic growth and energy consumption, so demand is on the rise. Also, oil is traded in U.S. dollars. So as exchange rates work against us, traders in the world market increase what they are willing to pay for oil. Prices go up for us, but not for everyone.

Our thirst for oil is nearly insatiable. While it’s “pc” to talk about alternative fuels and renewable energy, the truth of the matter is that the majority of oil consumed in this country is used by the transportation sector, meaning our cars. According to the Energy Information Agency, in February over 60% of the oil we consumed went for gasoline and jet fuel. That percentage will go up over the summer as refiners reduce heating oil production in order to meet gasoline demand during the travel season.

There are not enough hybrid cars being produced and purchased to make a significant dent in that for some time to come. If the life “expectancy” of a car is 10 years, then we replace 10% of our auto fleet each year. Even if all of new cars were hybrids, it will take at least that long to increase average fuel efficiency. In the meantime population growth puts more cars on the road, so gasoline consumption in total rises.

What have our lawmakers in Washington done for us? Well, they’ve curtailed the only tool we have to fight rising oil prices, domestic production. No drilling in Alaska. No offshore drilling. No drilling in the west. Oil shale reserves aren’t allowed to be explored and extraction techniques tested and commercialized. No refineries can be built. Yet, Congress overwhelmingly passed legislation to SUE OPEC for setting high oil prices and limiting supply. Limiting supply? Now that’s novel.

Who profits from the higher oil prices? Washington likes to point the finger at “big oil”, but the dirty little secret is that state and federal governments make out like bandits. According to data from the California Energy Commission, when the price per gallon was $3.89 (April 28, 2008), taxes accounted for $.65 of the price paid at the pump. Crude oil was $2.83 of that. The remaining $.41 went for refining, transportation, marketing and profits. Would Congress dare to look in the mirror?

What can be done? Both sides have to give something. We have got to allow more domestic exploration and production. It takes 10 years to bring a new oil field online so this should have been done years ago, like during the Clinton administration. But we also MUST increase our mileage standards. This has to be a comprehensive plan that also encourages the development of new automobile technology and fuels.

I’m not terribly optimistic. The hearings last week were a charade. I don’t have faith that political differences and grandstanding can be put aside. This tit for tat mentality has gotten us where we are today and I don’t see an end in sight. After all, we have an election in November and when that’s over with, they only have 2 years to work on the next. The only shot we average citizens have for getting the message out is between now and November. Let your candidates know what you want.

Sentinel’s Creed

My dedication to this sacred duty
Is total and whole-hearted.
In the responsibility bestowed on me
Never will I falter.
And with dignity and perseverance
My standard will remain perfection.
Through the years of diligence and praise
And the discomfort of the elements,
I will walk my tour in humble reverence
To the best of my ability.
It is he who commands the respect I protect,
His bravery that made us so proud.
Surrounded by well meaning crowds by day,
Alone in the thoughtful peace of night,
This soldier will in honored glory rest
Under my eternal vigilance.

This Weeks Favorite Read

It’s not often I read a post which I believe echoes the sentiments of the majority of Americans.

This, however comes as close as I think I’ll ever get:

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

We, the little people want you, our elected leadership to do just that, and only that.

form a more perfect union.
establish Justice.
insure domestic tranquility. *
provide for the common defense.
promote the general welfare.
secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves** and our posterity

Those are the things that are charged in the preamble to the constitution, from which you derive your authority to legislate.

We don’t want you wasting your time, or our money making proclamations which do not serve us–for example, things like recognizing “Cuba solidarity day,” Honoring Arnold Palmer for his distinguished career in the sport of golf and his commitment to excellence and sportsmanship, Recognizing the importance of bicycling in transportation and recreation, National Day of the American Cowboy, Congratulating Albania and Croatia on Talks with NATO, et cetera. If you come across a resolution or proclamation that sounds good, but has no real impact on our lives, don’t bother with it.

We, the little people, are paying you for a service. The service you provide as a member of the legislative branch is to work as hard as you can to make our lives just a little bit better, within the bounds of the constitution. We don’t want you to use the money we give to the government to “create” jobs, as a capitalist democracy, we want you to encourage the free market to create jobs.

We, the little people, don’t want anyone in our nation to be denied basic needs of food, water, shelter, and clothing. We would rather donate our monies to charities that can assist those less fortunate, than to an enlarged government bureaucracy that does the same thing, just not as effectively.

We Are Officially Endorsing McCain

After searching my conscience about all three faulty candidates still in the race, I have decided to endorse John McCain for President of the United States.

You will find a link to his site on our sidebar, which will take you to his homepage where you will, hopefully, donate a couple of dollars in his quest to become President of the United States.

There’s no use whining we didn’t get the ideal candidate, as he has enough delegates to get the nomination.

There’s no use sitting out the election as that would be a vote for a candidate that would lead us down the garden path to socialism.

He’s not the best on all issues, but he is the best of the choices we have this year, and therefore I whole-heartedly endorse him, for whatever it’s worth.

I think Sue has the same feelings, but I’ll let her speak for herself if she wishes.

God Has Blessed Us This Week Especially

On Tuesday I told you our daughter in law had been taken by ambulance to the hospital for a suspected aneurysm in her brain. After sending emails to our church list and to prayer warriors on my email list we were so relieved to get the answer in such a short time. She suffered a “complicated” migraine and sinus infection and thus the blood in her spinal fluid. She is feeling fine now.

What I didn’t tell you was that my husband had to undergo an endoscopy and colonoscopy on Friday due to the lab having found blood in his stool.

We spent the afternoon at the hospital with the doctor running about 40 minutes behind. Everyone in there to be tested was starving, but they had gone through the prep and had to stick it out. One doctor was on call at the ER as well as doing these scheduled procedures. Not very good scheduling on the part of his practice.

When I went back to the cubicle made with curtains my husband was lying there, seemingly awake, and doing what they tell you to do after this procedure.

Soon the doctor came in and told us he had removed a couple of polyps and could not find the source for the bleeding. He says that can happen from almost anything and my husband is on aspirin therapy per the instructions from his cardiologist. No, he doesn’t have heart trouble yet. They are watching a couple of small blood vessels to make sure they don’t get more blockage than they have.

My husband has to go back June 6 to have his colon checked with barium and an X-Ray. This is because my husband has gained weight and his colon has grown as a result. The doctor ran out of tube to check the entire colon and wants to see all of it.

We expect he will be fine and he went to bed almost as soon as he got something light to eat last night. He’s still snoozing away.

Just when Satan tries to put doubts in my mind about God and Jesus, the Lord takes them out by showing us the power or prayer and His healing powers.

We truly had the peace that passes understanding with my husband’s condition, but our daughter in law threw us for a loop since she has a history of cancer brought on by Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. At one time she had three tumors on the base of her skull, and we thought they might be acting up.

Fortunately, that was not the case.

I cannot appropriately praise God in words even in the best of times, but at times like this I feel even more humble.

Words are not enough to express my love for each of you for praying for Lucy and probably for Don too as you read Sue’s post on Friday to pray for us.

It’s so wonderful to know the Lord, and if we didn’t have Him we would have been downcast at the very least. I’m convinced of that.

Now I’m also exhausted as I didn’t realize the strain on me until it was all over. I never panic as long as I know something has to be done, but after it’s all over, I collapse in exhaustion and exhilaration at what Jesus has done for us in addition to His blood sacrifice on the Cross of Calvary.

Have a wonderful week-end, everyone, and please go to church on Sunday. You will be amazed at how blessed you will be.

No “Willing Suspension of Disbelief” Here

Senator Lieberman, much like President Bush is a man I admire for his courage to follow his convictions even in the face of abandonment of his party.

Once again the Senator delivers remarks to Generals Petraeus and Odierno which only serve to reinforce my feeling toward him as an American first, Senator second:

The Senator’s remarks coupled with this encouraging post at Mudville Gazette offer hope that we are now moving in the right direction in Iraq.

I can think of nothing more appropriate as we head into this Memorial Day weekend than to shed a positive light on those who serve her so selflessly:

The story points out that Iraqi forces are now leading operations in Basra, Mosul and Sadr City, making progress with relatively little American support.

“This is unprecedented: three major Iraqi-led operations in three different parts of the country.”

And…

Last week, the overall level of attacks in Iraq was at the lowest point since April, 2004. So far in May, the U.S. death rate is the lowest of the war.

And…

Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s political position has never been stronger, he currently has the backing of Sunnis, Kurds and moderate Shiites. As a result, Moqtada al-Sadr’s party is politically isolated.

And…

The speaker of the Iraqi parliament [a Sunni] wrote a heartfelt letter to President Bush, thanking the U.S. for sending the “best politicians and military commanders” to Iraq.

Greyhawk has linked the ABC News story referenced above. It speaks volumes.

Who knows the actual purpose of the meeting John McCain is conducting this weekend with several prominent members of the GOP and Senator Lieberman.

I don’t know if any of these individuals are on the short list for the Senator’s VP choice, but I do hope that Governor Jindal is not the selection.

While I have a great deal of respect for him, should the ticket not win, it could remove a genuine shining star for the GOP from the national stage in the future.

The Governor’s words:

“I think it would be extremely presumptuous for me to turn down something that has not been offered to me. But I’ve been public in every conversation I’ve ever had with anybody, I’ve made it very clear I’ve got the job that I want.”

We’ll see, as anything at the present moment is nothing more than speculation.

The best fisking of Hillary Clinton’s speech in Florida which I have read to date.

Desperate to get attention for her cause to seat Florida and Michigan delegates, Hillary Clinton compared the plight of Zimbabweans in their recent fraudulent election to the uncounted votes of Michigan and Florida voters saying it is wrong when “people go through the motions of an election only to have them discarded and disregarded.”

We Need Your Prayers

Our son just called us from Texas to tell us our daughter in law has been taken to the hospital by ambulance after passing out at work last night.

They now suspect an aneurysm in the brain since there apparently was some blood in her spinal fluid. This is a nightmare all over again, as I underwent the same tests when I was 27 years old, but my spinal fluid was clear. I also know it can mean a brain tumor, and I am asking anyone who reads this to please say a prayer for Lucy, that whatever it is will be healed by the Great Physician.

I thank all of you and will keep you updated.

Update: 8:17 am EDT I just spoke to Lucy. She said when she got to the hospital her blood pressure was 175 over something; she has numbness on the right side of her face and down her right arm. The blood indicates a slow bleed somewhere in her brain and she has already had a CT scan and is waiting for an MRI machine to free up so they can check to see whether she had a stroke or if there is something else going on in there.

Update 2, 12:15 PM EDT I just heard the most beautiful words from our son: “Mom, it’s basically nothing. She had what they called a complicated migraine and sinus infection.”

Thanks and praises to our wonderful Lord and Savior! Thanks to all who have responded with prayer. God has heard it and spared her for us once again.

Breaking: Senator Kennedy Diagnosed with Brain Tumor – Updated

From the AP:

Doctors say Sen. Edward Kennedy has brain tumor; condition discovered after he had seizure.

This is all the information available at this time. Updates will follow if further news on the Senator’s condition is released.

Major Update:

Doctors for the Massachusetts Democrat say tests conducted after Kennedy suffered a seizure this weekend show a tumor in his left parietal lobe. Preliminary results from a biopsy of the brain identified the cause of the seizure as a malignant glioma, they said.

His treatment will be decided after more tests but the usual course includes combinations of radiation and chemotherapy.

The 76-year-old senator has been hospitalized in Boston since Saturday, when he was airlifted from Cape Cod after a seizure at his home.

Thoughts and prayers are offered to the Senator and his family.

Update:

As it should be. There are no politics here, just grief for an old, dear friend.

Senator Robert Byrd delivered these remarks upon hearing of the diagnosis received by Senator Kennedy:

The Difference

John McCain, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were walking down a Washington DC street when they came upon a homeless man.

John McCain gave the man his business card and told him to come to his office for a job. He then took $20 out of his pocket and gave it to the man.

Hillary was very impressed, so when they came upon another homeless person she decided to help. She walked over to him and gave him directions to the welfare office. She then reached into John McCain’s pocket and got out $20. She kept $15 for her administrative fee and gave the man $5.

When they came upon yet another homeless person, Barack told him…”To have hope…change is coming…” and gave him nothing.

Now do you understand the difference?

Congratulations are in order to the Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

To the many fans of these two teams, congratulations. If the performance of Detroit and Pittsburgh to this point is any indication, they will provide hockey fans everywhere an exciting Stanley Cup final.

Justice served.

Law enforcement personnel have what I consider to be one of the most difficult jobs in our country but I never find it acceptable for them to use their badge as cover for abuse..even on the worst criminals. Self defense is one thing but blatant abusive behavior is quite another.

Now, for those charged with the crimes cited in this article, if found guilty, let’s hope justice is just as swift and harsh for them.

PHILADELPHIA — Four police officers who were caught on video beating three suspects in a drug-related triple shooting will be fired, Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey said Monday.

Three other officers have been suspended, Commissioner Ramsey said at a news conference, and one officer has been demoted.

The disciplinary action follows a two-week investigation of the May 5 beating, filmed by a television news helicopter, in which the three men were dragged from their car and then kicked and punched by as many as 15 officers in the Hunting Park section of North Philadelphia.

The men are in custody on attempted murder, assault and firearms charges.

Obama Pulling Out the Old Social Security Scare Tactic

You can count on Democratic presidential candidates to haul out Medi-scare or Social Security scare tactics every presidential year.

While speaking to a group of people in an assisted living center (read senior citizens) Obama claimed John McCain would reduce their Social Security payments or cut back on their cost of living raises if elected.

Obama said McCain would push to raise the retirement age for collecting Social Security benefits or trim annual cost-of-living increases. Obama has rejected both ideas as solutions to the funding crisis projected for Social Security in favor of making higher-income workers pay more into the system.

“We have to protect Social Security for future generations without pushing the burden onto seniors who have earned the right to retire in dignity,” he said.

McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds accused Obama of making “misinformed partisan attacks.”

“John McCain has been clear about his belief that we must fix Social Security for future generations and keep our promises to today’s retirees, but raising taxes should not be the answer to every problem,” Bound said.

We all agree something has to be done to protect the Social Security retirement program or there will be none for our children and grandchildren. But, having a certain percentage of one’s already withholding amount put into a private plan (such as what the government workers get) is not going to take away from those already on Social Security or about to be on Social Security.

Instead of allowing private citizens to get the same kind of retirement benefits federal and state workers get the Democrats would rather the senior citizens of this country get barely enough to subsist if that is their sole income.

If you put money into a 401(k) plan at a young age and don’t touch it you will have a comfortable life after retirement. That’s all President Bush ever proposed: allow the younger workers to put 1 or 2% of their FICA withholding into a private plan managed by the government (that’s an oxymoron) and the rest would go into Social Security.

With people working past age 65 now, and a lot because they want to, raising the age for full social security benefits to 67 or 68 or even 70 is not so unreasonable. FDR used the age of 65 because back when he was in office the life expectancy was not that high and he figured that would keep the program solvent. Life expectancy has risen and so should the age for full social security benefits. You still have the option of taking reduced payments at age 62, and how many people do you know who actually wait until they are 65? I suggest the government employees be required to contribute to social security or private citizens be allowed the same benefit as a government employee.

This scare tactic has been proven false time and time again since Reagan first ran for president, and Obama is using the same bag of tricks. Let’s just hope our senior citizens are smarter than they were 28 years ago.

Shame on Obama for scaring the senior citizens this way.

Open Mouth, Insert Foot – Updated with new video link

Just one more hole for the GOP to dig itself out of was initiated by Mike Huckabee today at the NRA convention.

The suggestion that someone in the crowd of lawful gun owners would take aim at the Senator is absurd on its face, but Huckabee made it worse by explaining Barack Obama’s imagined reaction.

If the former governor had designs on a VP spot, well let’s just say he might have shot himself in the foot today..at least I hope so.

Update:For whatever reason the original video I posted was deleted at Breitbart. If you wish to view the remarks, you may do so here.

Update 2: Breitbart offered another version of the original video which I have inserted..so no, I have not lost it altogether..yet!

Update 3: Here is the apology offered by Mike Huckabee. Most of the time I would say being contrite about an indiscretion was enough but these politicians seem not to be able to go off script without making fools of themselves.

It just happens far too frequently and this type of apology is just as scripted as the speeches they deliver:

“I made an off hand remark that was in no way intended to offend or disparage Sen. Obama,” the statement said. “I apologize that my comments were offensive. That was never my intention.”

If the Shoe Fits, Complain About It

While speaking to the Israeli Knesset yesterday President Bush made this remark:

“Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along.

“We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: ‘Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided.’

“We have an obligation to call this what it is — the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history”

Remember, he was speaking to the Israelis who are the survivors and descendants of the survivors of the worst appeasement policy in history; that of Chamberlain with Hitler.

Instead of democrats agreeing this is actual history (and no democrat names were mentioned) Obama, Clinton, Biden, Pelosi and who knows who else felt compelled to condemn the speech as a political slap in the face at them. Unless their names are Chamberlain or Hitler they were not mentioned.

I actually think the president was thinking more in the lines of Jimmy Carter, who has had his hands in every crisis since he created the one with Iran.

The argument is that the president shouldn’t go overseas and talk bad about the Congress. It’s an unwritten rule. I guess it just took effect because if that’s the case it stands to reason no politician should go overseas and criticize the President of the United States.

Let’s see, Pelosi, former President Clinton and former President Carter come to mind immediately as breaking that unwritten rule and very recently and often.

Why do you suppose they all got so touchy about the comment the President made? Do you suppose the shoe fit them and it was too close for comfort?
