Guss:

Comments like the one above are one of the reasons I miss you here at ~J's~.

While we may have disagreed on various issues, on the things which truly matter you always found something profound to say.

Hope all is well with you!

Guss, your expression of love for our country has truly touched me and has almost brought me to tears, my brother. You still have that patriotism we were taught as children.

I find myself moving further and further away from the democrat party. I'm not one of these people that thinks that change can come because someone has created a slogan. The powerful just won't let it happen.
We have worked ourselves into a corner. On one hand we have someone with no experience and on the other we have one with the wrong kind.
This time around I'm going with McCain. I just don't want to go through another 4 or 8 years with someone that is in training and with advisers who don't want change. At least I've known John long enough to know that he will not hurt this country that I love so dearly.

Hi all! Was I surprised this morning to find a new Jury Room at our County Courthouse. It was bright, large and well equipped as opposed to our old one which was none of the former.Anyhow, just thought I'd mention that it was a nice way to start what is always a long but necesary day.

I agree that the Republicans will by all indications not take back either House this year. Much of that is their own fault. One of the reasons which I see is that they became lazy in their recruitment of strong candidates to take on incumbents especially. Of course their management skills when they had control of both houses left much to be desired.

I will check out that piece at RCP David as Newt usually lays what he believe on the line..and in most cases has been proven to be right. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks, David. I'll check it out. He's probably saying they need to be more fiscally responsible etc. And that's the truth. They also need to grow up and stop this petty in-fighting in Congress. Someone has to be the adult. Might as well be the republicans.

Very interesting article by Newt Gingrich in the afternoon addition of RCP. Too long to quote, but it's detailed and gives concrete examples of why and how the GOP must change.

Well, Guss, the current Congress isn't anything to rave about unless you're just disgusted with them.

I agree with David that the Congress will not be taken back by Republicans this year, neither house. The numbers are against them, but if they show some kind of discipline in governing I think it's possible in the near future. It all depends on how much the democrats show off again as they have this term.

Well, number 5 was not very informative. I thought it was almost mathematically impossible for the Republicans to regain the majority because of the number of GOP Congresspersons who are retiring. For reasons I do not know, a Democrat won in La. Saturday. In my state, two GOP Representatives are running a very negative campaign for Senator Domenici's seat and the Democrat, Tom Udall, has no primary opposition. He's more than 20 points ahead of either Republican now. Heather Wilson's seat will probably go Democrat. She lost to a very weak opponent in '06 by less than 800 votes in a Democrat district. I think the best case scenario here for the GOP is retaining 1 seat. They now have 3 out of the 5, but the GOP primary for Senate has Wilson against Pierce and it is nasty. Three of the seats have contested Democratic primary opponents, but there has been no negative campaigning. The debates have focused on genuine political issues, but no attack advertisements by the Dems against each other. The one Democratic senator we have is not up for re-election. I know there were some articles in the past on RCP that made sense, at least when I read them, that indicated the GOP just could not pick up enough seats to regain a majority. I'd love to be corrected, but it was a purely mathematical analysis.
