A Personal Favorite

The Anchoress does it again.

You can be concerned about a path America is taking, but you cannot decide America “deserves” bad things. You can shudder at a million babies being aborted a year, but you also must take heart that there is an energetic faith-based opposition to abortion and euthanasia that is making real inroads into the heart of society. You don’t like the way the country is going, you work to change it and you pray…you do not sit there deciding, “well, I’m upset with the way America’s going, so I think God wants me to sit this election out because the country deserves a few years of pain.”

It almost sounds like, “I don’t have the candidate I want, so I will spitefully sit it out, and use belief in a just and vengeful God as my excuse and my justification. And boy, after that, America will learn to take my concerns and my votes more seriously! Go get ‘em God!”

Simply said with a flair which time after time cuts right to the chase.

I have only to add, “thank you.”

Honesty is the best policy…however

When I see a headline like this at Drudge it literally sends chills up my spine:

SHOCK: 2/3 OF WHITES CITING RACE WON’T VOTE OBAMA IN GENERAL…

Not character, qualifications or simply not believing the man is capable of handling the presidency (for any number of reasons), but rather the color of one’s skin?

I have been exposed to enough people in my lifetime to know that there are good and bad in all ethnicity’s. It is not naivete which drives this post, it is sadness.

This Democratic primary season has shown us some of the worst of America. The press in particular has driven the racial and gender card to its limits, and frankly, I am absolutely sick to death of it all.

Yes, these may just be exit poll numbers associated with the West Virginia primary, but when you think of the tone these candidates and their surrogates have taken, it is just a continuation of what we have seen over the past many months.

Last I looked, women are no better than men, a person of color is no different than a Caucasian, and the Presidency should not be a tool for those who continue to attempt to divide this country racially or otherwise.

Tuesday Tid-Bits

~o)There is heroism and then there is heroism.

If the deeds of Irene Sendler do not qualify in the true sense of the word, then I do not know who or what would:

Irene Sendler, known to many as the “female Schindler”, rescued children and babies imprisoned in the Jewish ghetto in Warsaw, smuggling them out in bags, or through the sewers, and hiding them with friendly families around Warsaw.

Follow the links at Ace of Spades to read and see more on the life and selflessness of this amazing woman.

~o)Imagine a member of the US Military opening this care package:

A South Carolina grandmother has become a sensation among stressed-out U.S. military men and women around the globe by sending the most incongruous of gifts: pliable, google-eye dolls.

Not that soldiers, Marines and airmen are doing much cuddling with her hand-stitched, foot-tall playthings. Carol Davis’ “Dang-it-Dolls” are built to take punishment from homesick, frustrated troops and her work is getting rave reviews.

The picture at the link tells the story. What a fantastic idea!

~o)Could be a very interesting few days on Capitol Hill:

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md) will testify tomorrow afternoon in an unprecedented hearing before the Select Committee investigating how the Democrats violated House rules to produce a fraudulent result on August 2, 2007.

According to a “notice of hearing” obtained by HUMAN EVENTS, and as explained to us by House sources, Hoyer – along with Cong. Michael McNulty (D-NY) – will be the first members to testify in such a hearing in the history of the Congress.

Members often testify in behalf of bills they introduce or in behalf of presidential nominees they favor (or against those they oppose). But it is only in the rarest occasion do they face potentially hostile questions, in ethics committee hearings. Tuesday’s hearing before the “Select Committee to Investigate the Voting Irregularities of August 2, 2007” will be the first time in the history of the House that members of Congress have faced such an inquiry and been subjected to questioning by members of the opposing party.

As I reported last October Republicans reacted with outrage at the maneuvers apparently pulled by Hoyer, acting as House leader and McNulty, who was presiding over House proceedings at the time. Republicans had made a motion to deny illegal aliens welfare benefits. When McNulty gaveled the vote to a close, the Republicans had won 214-213. Then, apparently at Hoyer’s direction, the vote was reopened so that Speaker Pelosi could vote, producing a tie that defeated the Republican motion.

We’ll see how much coverage this warrants. Should be interesting.

Have a terrific Tuesday!
