Just one more hole for the GOP to dig itself out of was initiated by Mike Huckabee today at the NRA convention.
The suggestion that someone in the crowd of lawful gun owners would take aim at the Senator is absurd on its face, but Huckabee made it worse by explaining Barack Obama’s imagined reaction.
If the former governor had designs on a VP spot, well let’s just say he might have shot himself in the foot today..at least I hope so.

Update 2: Breitbart offered another version of the original video which I have inserted..so no, I have not lost it altogether..yet!
Update 3: Here is the apology offered by Mike Huckabee. Most of the time I would say being contrite about an indiscretion was enough but these politicians seem not to be able to go off script without making fools of themselves.
It just happens far too frequently and this type of apology is just as scripted as the speeches they deliver:
“I made an off hand remark that was in no way intended to offend or disparage Sen. Obama,” the statement said. “I apologize that my comments were offensive. That was never my intention.”

While speaking to the Israeli Knesset yesterday President Bush made this remark:
“Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along.
“We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: ‘Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided.’
“We have an obligation to call this what it is — the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by historyâ€
Remember, he was speaking to the Israelis who are the survivors and descendants of the survivors of the worst appeasement policy in history; that of Chamberlain with Hitler.
Instead of democrats agreeing this is actual history (and no democrat names were mentioned) Obama, Clinton, Biden, Pelosi and who knows who else felt compelled to condemn the speech as a political slap in the face at them. Unless their names are Chamberlain or Hitler they were not mentioned.
I actually think the president was thinking more in the lines of Jimmy Carter, who has had his hands in every crisis since he created the one with Iran.
The argument is that the president shouldn’t go overseas and talk bad about the Congress. It’s an unwritten rule. I guess it just took effect because if that’s the case it stands to reason no politician should go overseas and criticize the President of the United States.
Let’s see, Pelosi, former President Clinton and former President Carter come to mind immediately as breaking that unwritten rule and very recently and often.
Why do you suppose they all got so touchy about the comment the President made? Do you suppose the shoe fit them and it was too close for comfort?

Keith Olberman is probably the most despicable person I have ever seen on television. He makes Dan Rather’s bouts with President Nixon look like a day in the playground when he goes on his daily rants about President Bush.
When was the last time you ever heard a television personality tell the President of the United States to “Shut the hell up”? This is the first and last time I’ve ever heard anyone so disrespect the office because of the occupant of the office. And we wonder why our country is split. It’s due in part to idiots like this.
Olberman should have kept his ESPN job where he could just read about sports jocks. The one redeeming factor is who really watches MSNBC anyway?
