I love tomatoes any way I can get them. I love them green and fried or red and eaten by themselves or as part of a salad or sandwich. I just love tomatoes.
A few years ago I was tested for allergies and found that I am allergic to tomatoes. That explained all the itching I had experienced since it was tomato season and I was eating a lot of tomatoes.
Now we have a salmonella outbreak and my beloved tomatoes are the main culprit according to the FDA. Well, I haven’t eaten tomatoes since I was told I was allergic to them, but I still love tomatoes.
Yesterday I broke down and had two BLT sandwiches, and they were delicious and worth the itching I am having now. We got them from our son’s best friend who grew them in his garden. Thanks, Neil! ![]()
If you like tomatoes too, the raw ones are the suspects, you can go to this FDA site and see if tomatoes grown in your area are safe or not.
The FDA is now checking other vegetables that are usually eaten with tomatoes, but won’t tell us which ones. They are also checking common watering sources and common soil to see if they can find the reason for the outbreak.
If you love tomatoes just look for those that are acceptable, and hopefully you live in a state that is safe. There are a lot of them. Happy eating!
