A trip down memory lane (for those of us old enough to remember).
Enjoy!

How fun and I’m not a person who normally likes nostalgia! Many thanks–this is the first think I read this morning. I shouldn’t remember the Eisenhower election–I would have been @4 1/2 years old–but I distinctly remember the “I like Ike” buttons.” My brother thinks I remember it because it was a big topic of conversation around our dinner table. My family was a mixed marriage in more ways than one. Mom was moderate GOP and Dad was moderate Democrat (in Ohio). My dad, despite being a farmer, was opposed to farm subsidies. I remember him ranting about being paid not to grow wheat, which we never grew anyway. My brother is 70 next month and says these subsidies were a big topic in our home. He thinks both my parents voted for Ike. He says my mother was more loyal to another candidate before the convention–thought President Eisenhower’s military experience wasn’t enough to be a substitute for political experience. I also remember all the jokes about his golfing.

Morning all!
Was thinking when I posted this what it would be like in another half century or so to see what that generation will be looking back on.
I suppose video games, computers, body jewelry, Hannah Montana, Harry Potter, the global warming controversy and yes, even a few political figures would make the list.

My saddle shoes had brown on the sides and had rubber soles that looked like giant erasers. Remember White Bucks?
I could hula hoop, but only one at a time. How many sets of Pop beads did you have?
Boy, this brings back a lot of memories.
David, you probably do remember the I like Ike buttons and slogans, but from his second run at the presidency. I remember that one too but not the first. I remember I was told to go tell my great-aunt Eisenhower was on the radio (she was in her shop making baskets) and I couldn’t even pronounce his name. She understood and turned on the radio though.
The good ole days.

I could hula hoop too and passed many hours doing so. Jacks were big then too, and I remember loads of time taken up with tossing that silly ball in the air and trying to scoop up those metal jacks.
As for pop beads I had two very long sets which I can remember, one pink and one white which I used to wear proudly.
As for those saddle shoes mine were black and white but had to be made with a lift on one shoe so my eraser was probably bigger than yours..LOL
Just finished a game of Go Fish with the grandkids. We used to have that too. Remember Old Maid, Crazy Eights and War? S

I remember hoola hoops. They were fun. So was Old Maid. No one plays that anymore — wonder why? Thanks for the great trip down memory lane.

After reading this post again, I take back everything I have said this morning that has offended anyone and I will say it again. What a wonderful way to start the day.
