Not Much News (At Least New News That Is)

There really is not much to write about these days.

I don’t care if John Edwards had an affair. His indiscretions are between him and his wife at this point.

Politics in general only seem to create tension and are of no real interest at this point to those who traditionally read here.

Gas prices continue to drop in my neck of the woods and that is good news as long as those of you in other parts of the country are seeing the same.

Brett Favre is now a NY Jet..like anyone who reads or watches news would find that newsworthy at this point in time.

We are actually winning in Iraq. It’s been so quiet on the news front (for so long now) that I know now it must really be the truth. (I’ll trust my personal sources anyhow.)

Hillary’s surrogates might or might not offer her name up for nomination at the DNC convention..not particularly news either is it? Or perhaps it fits under the who cares category.

John McCain will be in my home state campaigning with former Governor Ridge..hardly any local news coverage about that.

We’re still not in a recession..heard that one lately?

The President does not support the policies in place in China but is attending the Olympics to support our athletes. That’s okay by me. They don’t particularly like us either.

Soon the days of Summer will be behind us followed closely by an election in November. Maybe after that there will be something worthy of a good, long post.

Pretty boring post, right? Sorry about that.

But, if you consider how often you have seen, heard or read about most of the stories above, it becomes evident that unless you wish to just regurgitate what can be found everywhere, there really, really is not much to write about these days.

Have a great weekend all.

Enjoy whatever it is you love to do!

The Benefits of Old Age

Old Age, I decided, is a gift.

I am now, probably for the first time in my life, the person I have always wanted to be.
I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly. As I’ve aged, I’ve become more kind to myself, and less critical of myself. I’ve become my own friend.

I don’t chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn’t need, but looks so avant garde on my patio. I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant.

Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 A.M. and sleep until noon?
I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60 & 70’s, and if I wish, I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set.
They, too, will get old.

I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the important things..

Sure, over the years my heart has been broken..
But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect.

I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver.

As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don’t question myself anymore. I’ve even earned the right to be wrong.

So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become.
I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting about what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day (If I feel like it).

Comments Not Posting?

We have installed a second spam filter on the blog to keep out the spammers who have been getting through on the original spam filter.

If you post a comment you feel is valid please go to the page to email me. You will find the page located near the bottom on the right sidebar. It says “Comment went to spam” and has a place for you to fill in your request and send it to me.

The problem is, with the new spam filter, I am unable to see what comments have been deleted, so if you would kindly put in your information (user name, post title, comment, valid email etc. (email won’t be shown on the page) I will put the comment in under your name and see if it takes.

We are still checking to see how we can rescue comments from that spam filter, but it seems to be keeping out all the comments that had been being posted and had to be removed.

Thanks, Jeanette
