The First Lady, Mrs. McCain and four Gulf Coast state Governors (via tape) spoke at the opening of today’s abbreviated GOP convention.
They are so right.
We are all Americans first and as Americans we always seem to find the sense of compassion and giving needed in times of trouble.
Watching the above commentary and looking over some of the discussion here over the past days got me to thinking that while we may disagree on issues and political preference one thing is still ultimately important.
I’ll just let Frank tell (sing) it.

Sounds exciting. All this compassion and giving coming from the republican party. Haven’t we heard that before? I don’t think that it’s going to work, except for those already drinking the kool aid.

I’m really not sure I understand Guss.
The giving is not just from Republicans, rather these folks attempting to pull Americans together to help those in need.
Guess you just see it in a different light.

I was really pleased to see this appropriate reaction from the convention. I was not pleased to hear Hurricane Hannah (?) is headed J’s way. I’m waiting to hear from a friend who evacuated from New Orleans, then Gustav changed course and headed west–just as my friend did.
In N.M. political news, our Congressional delegation will probably go from 2 Democrats and 3 Republicans to 3 Democrats and 2 Republicans, although all of the races are very close except one–which will go Democrat. No Republican is going to win Udall’s district when the Democrat is Hispanic-Native American and the voters are 20% Native American. Plus-the national party is putting no money into the Anglo-unknown Republican opponent in that district. In the Senate race, Udall is favored over Reresentative Pierce. Congresswoman Heather Wilson would have been a stronger candidate, but she lost to Pierce. Pierce has a 100% conservative rating from whoever does these ratings. Rep. Wilson broke with President Bush over children’s health care issues and had about a 90% conservative rating. (I have NO clue who comes up with these ratings!).

I hope your friend is warm and safe David.
These natural disasters alter many lives in ways we cannot imagine unless we are directly affected.
