Congratulations, Congress and White House, We’ve Finally Done It

Congratulations to our esteemed members of Congress and the current Obama administration on finally taking our budget deficit to over one trillion dollars. Let’s put that in numbers, shall we? $1,000,000,000,000.
Put another way, if you spent one million dollars per day from the day Christ was born you would still not spend one trillion dollars by now.
Don’t blame Bush. He was only there until January 20 and the budget started in October, so just nine months after this budget year started (six months under the Obama administration and Democratic headlock on the Congress) we are more in debt for one year than at any other time in our history. Obama owns this mess.
And what has it gotten us? Certainly not more jobs. Certainly not a stronger economy. Oh, we own a few banks and a couple of car companies, but try to get a free loan and free interest on one of those cars you own. Sorry, pal, no can do.
Nine months into the fiscal year, the federal deficit has topped $1 trillion for the first time.
The imbalance is intensifying fears about higher interest rates and inflation, and already pressuring the value of the dollar. There’s also concern about trying to reverse the deficit — by reducing government spending or raising taxes — in the midst of a harsh recession.
The Treasury Department said Monday that the deficit in June totaled $94.3 billion, pushing the total since the budget year started in October to nearly $1.1 trillion.
The deficit has been propelled by the huge sum the government has spent to combat the recession and financial crisis, combined with a sharp decline in tax revenues. Paying for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan also is a major factor….
…”These are mind boggling numbers,” said Sung Won Sohn, an economist at the Smith School of Business at California State University. “Our foreign investors from China and elsewhere are starting to have concerns about not only the value of the dollar but how safe their investments will be in the long run.”…
…This has many Republicans and deficit hawks worried that the U.S. could be setting itself up for more financial pain down the road if interest rates and inflation surge. They also are raising alarms about additional spending the administration is proposing, including its plan to reform health care….
It had better have someone more worried about inflation and interest rates enough to actually stand up and do something about it.
Yes, the Republicans are outnumbered in Congress to the point of not really being able to do anything without the help of a lot of Democrats, but instead of making political hay about it they’d better start a campaign of telling the American people the bad news they don’t want to hear. They need to have an alternative plan in the works to show the American people they can bring these numbers down if given the chance, and they need to get every blue dog Democrat and moderate Democrat on their side and actually fight for the country they are supposed to serve. And if 2010 is a good year for Republicans they had better go back to Republican values of smaller government and less taxes instead of spending like Democrats, which got them kicked out in the first place.
We send our finest men and women to the battlefield every day to defend our country with their blood; the least these politicians can do is defend it with their words and actions and put out the message to the American public.
In the meantime, we have Obama and family traipsing all over the world in their expensive trench coats (ever pay over $100 for a child’s trench coat that she will outgrow in three months? Me either) When was the last time you took your children to Paris and London to celebrate a seven year old’s birthday?
When was the last time you had $100 per pound steak to serve as snacks to company? When was the last time you took an Air Force mini-jet to go to New York for a show and dinner?
The Obamas are Marie Antoinette and we are the ones eating cake. They act as though money is not a problem for them, and it isn’t because you and I are footing the bill for their travel and housing arrangements.
May the fleas of a million camels infest Washington and drive all the spenders away so we can have some relief from all the hot air and monopoly money. It’s time to stand up for our country and quit being yellow-bellied softies willing to allow anything “because they know better”. They don’t and we know it.
Note: Notice on our sidebar we have a running total of our National Debt, which is separate. Remember Obama said we have no money.
