In Defense of Life: “The moral test of government…”

“…the moral test of government is how that government treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the elderly; and those who are in the shadows of life—the sick, the needy, and the handicapped.”

Hubert H. Humphrey, November 4, 1977.

He spoke those words at the dedication of the Hubert H. Humphrey Building, headquarters of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

This morning my husband heard Kathleen Sebelius, as she spoke on the swine flu, quote Humphrey and point out that as you enter the Humphrey Building these words are written there on a wall.

This is breathtaking hypocrisy coming from the Obama administration. This is the big lie. Look not at their words, but at their mindset revealed in their former deeds, their policies and their present actions.

Let Humphrey’s words examine, discern and judge the health care bill.

On every issue the members of this administration use words spoken in earnest by others to attempt to blind us all to their actual intentions.

We had all keep our guard up or we will discover that in short order our country is nothing more than government controlled social programs designed to garner votes.

When you work for a man who describes a baby as punishment, and makes no attempt to visit his dying grandmother when he had every opportunity to do so it would probably be wise not to stress words such as Humphrey’s.

  • It would also be wise to remember Humphrey had a grandchild with Down Syndrome, whom he adored. This man in the White House would probably mandate an abortion on that child now.

Jeanette, I either had forgotten or didn’t know that about Humphrey. Thank you.

If you believe in God, where is your concern for the 47 million Americans who are without insurance? If you are truly pro-life, as you claim to be, you should be ashamed at yourself for supporting the GOP – those who would deny healthcare to the poor, the sick, and the unemployed (the ones in the “shadows” of Humphrey’s quote). You spread fear and lies about Grandma being euthanized – it is all nonsense. The GOP does not care about the sick, the poor, the unemployed, or your Grandma. Wake up and stop believing the nonsense.
