(6) Smirk was well backed on debut six months ago but raced very greenly and finished last, then came out at 20/1 and won her next start. Resumed with a good effort first up 1400m at Newcastle and obviously the stable thought enough of it to come straight to town despite finishing 2nd. JMac on, up to 1550m, hopefully the track has evened out by this stage and I think she’ll be too good.

(5) Za Ceibas will likely have to defy the typical Canterbury track pattern to win here but by Race 5 we might see it start to even out. She was a good winner first up at Hawkesbury in a Class 1, scoring by 3L with another 2L back to 3rd. That was on a soft 6 so hopefully the heavy 9 isn’t an issue.

(1) Barichello won his maiden over this track and distance last start and gets the added advantage of barrier 1 here, so he should get a great run throughout. Carries the same weight as he did last start after Reece Jones’ claim and he handles the heavy going.

(3) The Art Of Flying broke the maiden tag in good style last start, after a good first up run at Flemington. It took him a few goes to break the duck but I think he can go on with it now. He handled the heavy 10 here last start well and although he loses JMac, he gets frontrunning specialist Tim Clark aboard. Hopefully goes straight to the front and proves too strong again.
