It’s Finally Over!

There is a wonderful post below written by ~J~ congratulating Barack Obama on his win this evening. I too would like to say “well done” to his supporters and wish him well as he transitions to his new position as President of the United States.

Obama Wins Presidency

Senator Barack Obama will soon be able to also claim the title of President-elect Obama.

As I write this Obama already has 200 electoral votes according to projections and we still have the west to show up on the map.

Florida, Indiana and Virginia are still too close to call, but Ohio and New Mexico flipped to the democrats, giving McCain virtually no way to win the race even if he wins all the battleground states remaining. Ohio was the nail in the coffin.

We will now have an undivided government and can give credit or blame to one party for at least the next two years. In two years congress will be up for election again and if they haven’t performed better than they did the last two years I would expect to see some of the democrats tossed out on their ears then.

In four years if President-elect Obama, who will be President Obama, doesn’t do what he said or does what he said and people are dissatisfied he may be vulnerable then.

Romans 13 tells us that no person is put into office without God allowing it.

Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. Romans 13:1

The Bible also tells us we are to pray for our leaders. I will pray that the new president will have a good presidency and will govern from the center rather than the far left. I don’t have much hope for that but could be pleasantly surprised.

John McCain ran a lousy campaign and the crash of the markets in September and October hurt his candidacy greatly. He has served his country in an honorable way his entire adult life and has no reason to hang his head. He will still be a force to reckon with in the Senate.

Either way this election was going to make history. We were going to have the first female vice-president or the first African-American president. It looks like we have our first African-American president as of January 20, 2009.

I will be happy to see President Bush finally relieved of the terrible burden he has carried for the last eight years. If not for him we would still be worrying about terrorists bombing our cities and streets. He has kept us safe and has constantly been criticized by bitter democrats from day one and before. Yet he has done what he has felt is right for the country regardless of the political consequences and I believe history will show he was right and will be much kinder to him than the ultra-left wing of the democratic party.

President Bush deserves a long and peaceful retirement, and I hope if the new congress and president try to set a policy we will go along with the world court it will be defeated, as they are just itching to get their hands on Bush for what they call “war crimes”. It would be a tragedy to see him have to go before that kangaroo court and face those charges. I pray he has peace and a nice, quiet life for a couple of years before he enters public debate again, if he ever does.

I’m happy Sarah Palin was introduced to our country and hope she will one day run for president. If the moonbats can keep off her back about her wardrobe and any other silly excuse to hate a woman they don’t even know I think she will have an excellent chance at winning.

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal also has a bright future in national republican politics, so he and Palin are just two faces of the future leaders of the party.

It’s always more fun to back the winner, but we have to also remember to accept the decision of the American people who exercised their right to vote and voted for Mr. Obama.

Congratulations and prayers of good will go out to President-elect Obama and his campaign.

I will always respect the office of President of the United States. Respect for the man holding that office will have to be earned and I reserve judgment on that.

Now we will be watching and reporting on our government with even a sharper focus for the next two to four years.

May God bless America.

Welcome Anchoress readers.

One Chapter Ends, A New One Begins…Soon

Well, the last phone call from home was made to my fellow Pennsylvanian’s today.

The facts have been laid as bare as they could be on both presidential candidates and those running for lower offices.

Sometime tomorrow night (hopefully) we will know who will lead this great nation for at least the next four years. The challenges we may face will be great, but as long as we hold a firm grasp on our values I believe we will be okay no matter the outcome.

One thing I choose to remember is that this nation was not made grand by any one man in the White House nor those who sit in Congressional Offices. It was built brick by brick by those who have toiled, sweat and died for it’s mere existence.

That is the simple beauty of America and American’s.

Hopefully My Last Post Before the Election

We are as weary of this election campaign as the rest of you. Then again, maybe you’re not one of those political freaks who constantly reads and watches anything having to do with politics. If so, you are blessed because you probably don’t have frazzled nerves.

We have given you many arguments to vote for McCain and more to vote against Obama in tomorrow’s national election.

You are intelligent adults who can decide for yourselves how to vote if given as much information as is available.

Throughout this entire campaign we have tried to be fair in what we have posted. Not fair in the sense we have said Obama would make a good president, but fair in the sense that we never reported rumors. I am so proud to have found such a great friend and blogging partner as Sue, who agrees with me we don’t stand for negativity for the sake of negativity. But if something is on the record we will publish it. God knows someone has to do that. If not the blogs, then who?

Certainly not the main stream media who have been in Obama’s back pocket for almost two years now.

Traditionally the candidates will all wind up in their home states tonight to vote tomorrow and take the day off of public appearances except for the video of them voting. At last the campaign will be over as of tonight.

Not so fast! I just heard Obama plans to be at a voting precinct in Indiana on Tuesday. Why? I dunno. I don’t care, and I won’t pay attention.

John McCain will be home in Arizona tonight, Sarah Palin will be in Wasilla to vote first thing in the morning and then on a plane to Arizona to stand beside John McCain, win or lose. Presumably Joe Biden will be in Delaware to vote and wait until the evening party, which I pray will be a pity party and not a celebration.

Just as we have said everything to persuade you to vote for McCain, the candidates have done the same for their own causes. McCain has run a lousy campaign but we’ll see what the only poll that matters thinks of it at least by Wednesday. Unless the loser decides to go to court. Then it will be another long nightmare, thank you very much, Mr. Gore.

Record numbers of voters have turned out in early voting already. That’s good for our country if all the votes are clean and spotless. Unfortunately, history has shown that is not always the case. Look at all the complaints against ACORN just this election cycle.

It’s time now for me to shut up and await the decision of the American voters. I will not be watching television today, tonight or during the daytime Tuesday. Nor will I be reading internet newspapers during that time.

The next post I plan to make is one congratulating the winner. The tone of my post will be determined by who wins the presidency. The tone will not be bitter, though. If Obama wins it will be a congratulatory post and will be very short.

If McCain wins I will probably be so awestruck that the post will be long, happy, relieved and rambling.

Either way there is plenty of time to tell our friends on the other side, “I told you so”, but that will give me no satisfaction if it means the end of our country as we know it.

God bless America at least one more time and God bless you, the American voter. Now it’s time to make up your mind for good and GO OUT AND VOTE TUESDAY!

Too many of our best young men and women have given blood for your right to vote. Consider it your highest duty to your country.

One last thought. After watching Tina Fey portray Gov. Palin for the past couple of months I have decided Gov. Palin is a much more beautiful woman than Tina Fey. Wink

2 points..If This Poll Is Correct..Well, Let’s Say There Could Be A Few Surprises Tuesday

Vote. Folks. Vote.

Tipp shows this as a very close race and the numbers in some key states are leaning McCain. Every vote will count on Tuesday if we are to defeat Barack Obama.

2 points separate the candidates as of today:

The race tightened again Sunday as independents who’d been leaning to Obama shifted to McCain to leave that key group a toss-up. McCain also pulled even in the Midwest, moved back into the lead with men, padded his gains among Protestants and Catholics, and is favored for the first time by high school graduates.

McCain supporters should definitely look upon this as a positive:

“Most Accurate Pollster Of The Campaign Season”

An analysis of Final Certified Results for the 2004 election showed TIPP was the most accurate pollster of the campaign season, coming within three-tenths of a percentage point of Bush’s actual margin of victory. Learn more at www.TIPPonline.com.

Don’t let all the other skewed polls and tv nonsense convince you this is over. We can help McCain/Palin to victory if we just get out there and vote!

68-23 – McCain over Obama

One segment of our population has decided, overwhelmingly I might add, that John McCain would be their choice for Commander in Chief:

Surprise — at least one poll shows a huge McCain lead: “[Senator John] McCain, R-Ariz., handily defeated Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., 68 percent to 23 percent in a voluntary survey of 4,293 active-duty, National Guard, and reserve subscribers and former subscribers to Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times, and Air Force Times.” Or perhaps not so surprising: there’s a history involved here.

If these numbers hold true upon completion of the election then it would show that those commissioned to serve at the pleasure of the president understand the profound differences between these two candidates.

John McCain has proven his duty to country. He has shown through his own actions that he is willing to fight and die for America. Barack Obama on the other hand, not so much. This man has to swallow hard to not spew the party line even when it comes to giving credit to our uniformed services for their achievements in Iraq.

His use of our military for mere political gain was an early indicator of his disqualification (in my opinion) for the job of Commander in Chief.

Make no mistake, we will all pay a price in an Obama administration..he has made that clear himself, but the military will not only face the same “changes” to our country as all citizens but will serve at the pleasure of a President who has shown no tendencies toward respect of those who protect this nation.

We can voice our discontent, they cannot. Most of us individually will not be used as political tools, they will. Our pride will not be challenged by those in power not allowing us to complete a job with which we have been charged, theirs will. Those of us in civilian life will not experience the pain of feeling a friend or fellow “worker” lost their lives in vain. Under an Obama administration it is more than possible they will.

Check out the balance of Greyhawk’s post. It is well worth the read.

One Last Push By The McCain Campaign

As we close out this very long campaign season John McCain offers what might be one of his best ads yet:

Years of dedicated service to country versus an opponent who has not been seriously challenged or questioned during his legislative career or throughout this campaign.

For me it’s a no-brainer.

Sensible Talk When It Comes To The Media

Governor Palin on the effects the media has had on the Presidential election:

“If [the media] convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations then I don’t know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media.”

Sad, but true.

Exactly What is Obama’s Income Definition of “Middle Class”?

First Obama said anyone making $250,000 per year as a couple would get a higher tax, while those singles making $200,000 would get the same tax raise. Why not exempt couples making $400,000 which is double the single guideline, instead of adding just $50,000 to their status?

Then he lowered it to $150,000 when Biden dropped that number in Scranton, PA, the first of the week.

Now we hear Gov. Bill Richardson saying it will be $100,000 and anyone making that or higher will get a tax increase in Obama’s plan.

Listen to one of Obama’s top surrogates explain at what income level a person? family? would receive in an Obama administration:

Now, remember Obama and Biden both voted for a non-binding Senate resolution to roll-back the Bush tax cuts and increase taxes on individuals making $42,000 a year.

What is the middle class and what is the hope and change other than the hope some of you Obama supporters will change your mind if you haven’t already voted.

When Herbert Hoover was in office there was a deep recession. What did he do to fix the problem? He increased taxes and put us into a deep depression, carried on by Roosevelt’s New Deal and rising taxes.

Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.

Does that sound like the Hoover plan is the same as the Obama plan? Raise taxes while we are in a recession and fighting two fronts on the war on terror, or extend the Bush tax cuts and let the American people pull themselves out of the hole the politicians are responsible for digging.

Change and More Change

I did not watch Barack Obama deliver his infomercial last evening. Frankly, I wanted to enjoy the World Series and not begin it with my head ready to explode from listening to more campaign speak.

What tickled me though was to see the reaction of this AP writer in critiquing the Senator’s words:

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was less than upfront in his half-hour commercial Wednesday night about the costs of his programs and the crushing budget pressures he would face in office.

Obama’s assertion that “I’ve offered spending cuts above and beyond” the expense of his promises is accepted only by his partisans. His vow to save money by “eliminating programs that don’t work” masks his failure throughout the campaign to specify what those programs are – beyond the withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

This writer must not have received the memo..don’t criticize “The One.” Here’s a sample of the fiction v.fact for those who chose to partake:

THE SPIN: “That’s why my health care plan includes improving information technology, requires coverage for preventive care and pre-existing conditions and lowers health care costs for the typical family by $2,500 a year.”

THE FACTS: His plan does not lower premiums by $2,500, or any set amount. Obama hopes that by spending $50 billion over five years on electronic medical records and by improving access to proven disease management programs, among other steps, consumers will end up saving money. He uses an optimistic analysis to suggest cost reductions in national health care spending could amount to the equivalent of $2,500 for a family of four. Many economists are skeptical those savings can be achieved, but even if they are, it’s not a certainty that every dollar would be passed on to consumers in the form of lower premiums.

THE SPIN: “I’ve offered spending cuts above and beyond their cost.”

THE FACTS: Independent analysts say both Obama and Republican John McCain would deepen the deficit. The nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimates Obama’s policy proposals would add a net $428 billion to the deficit over four years – and that analysis accepts the savings he claims from spending cuts. The nonpartisan Tax Policy Center, whose other findings have been quoted approvingly by the Obama campaign, says: “Both John McCain and Barack Obama have proposed tax plans that would substantially increase the national debt over the next 10 years.” The analysis goes on to say: “Neither candidate’s plan would significantly increase economic growth unless offset by spending cuts or tax increases that the campaigns have not specified.”

There are more examples at the link and it is well worth a read especially if you are one of those still undecided voters.

If you are still on the fence, perhaps you also might take a look at this:

Obama’s socialistic views about sharing our hard earned money with others who did not work so hard to earn their money or who throw their money away on drugs or something is bad enough. Scary for sure. But if you want to be terrified think of an Obama administration which uses the NSA to listen in on calls AND has a Homeland Security Army to impose its will:

“Loving your country shouldn’t just mean watching fireworks on the 4th of July,” he said. “Loving your country must mean accepting your responsibility to do your part to change it.

As we say here in the Strata-Sphere, McCain wants to change DC, Obama wants to change America. But how?

“We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set,” he said Wednesday. “We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded.“

This man want to “change” our country. He wants “your help”..what exactly that means at this juncture is not crystal clear but when he speaks of a National Security Force..well I think it becomes a bit less foggy. Afghanistan has National Security forces, Iraq has National Security Forces. They are the equivalent of their military, but wait…we have a United States military so are we to have this force he advocates replace other law enforcement branches (police etc.)?

Folks, this might be the most radical candidate (wrapped in a cool, smiling package) we have ever had for President of the United States. If elected, Obama might change the face of this country as we know it in ways which will be difficult if not impossible to reverse.

For more reaction to what is the “doom and gloom” of this great country of ours, see here.

Did Obama Campaign Eat the Caviar too Soon?

Listening to the news the past couple of days for the first time since we got the new puppy, I am hearing the polls are tightening up. Gallup showed a 2 point Obama lead among likely voters last night, a 4 point surge by McCain overnight. I am reminded of the famous 1948 Chicago Tribune headline held up by Harry S Truman, stating Dewey had defeated Truman. We all remember President Dewey, don’t we? Smile

Now it seems the Obama campaign has released an urgent memo with a fill in the blanks form for a call to GOTV.

” Friends – Please take the time to read this.

After two years of working with Barack, I’ve been down in Miami now for about four weeks helping put together our final push for getting out the vote. Early voting started 8 days ago and we feel like we have a slight early advantage — but we are urgent. Polls for the last couple of weeks have given us a small lead of 4-5 points. If we are successful in getting out the massive numbers of voters that live here in Florida, Barack will win this state and make history.

We have last minute needs and I need your help. Here are our urgent needs:

1. People who are willing to come to Florida to do key GOTV activities of knocking on doors and making phone calls — this is our single biggest need. We don’t need anyone who wants to come down and hang out — we need workers. There are 600,000 African Americans who were registered to vote in 2004 who did not vote; 900,000 registered voters under the age of 35 who did not vote in 2004 and around 400,000 Hispanics who were registered but didn’t vote in 2004. These are key groups for us and with poor voting history, a special effort needs to be made. There are also 900,000 newly registered voters in the state — a large number are Democrats and Independents who we also need to pay special attention to. We will take anyone who is willing to talk to voters — and in Florida, with such a diverse population, we could use as many diverse people as possible. Spanish-speaking and those who speak Creole are in high demand.

2. We also need help with our Faith Outreach Program — people who will be here before Sunday morning to attend services, possibly speak on behalf of Barack Obama and help with GOTV churches and African American voters in general. We also need help with Hispanic churches, progressive denominations like Episcopal, United Church of Christ, etc.

3. We need experienced people who can help with inner-city GOTV efforts – mostly African American and Hispanic.

4. We need a few people who can help with GOTV logistics — creating walk packets, managing phone banks, running transportation systems, etc.

5. Attorney who can help with voter protection.

6. I’m sure there are other things we need that I’m not thinking about right now — but the bottom line is we need help.

There is a lot at stake here — 27 electoral votes, but also the future of building Florida into a majority Democratic state in the years to come. After an aggressive voter registration program here, Democrats now have a registration advantage of around 650,000 voters. In 2010, there will be critical races to oust Governor Christ and Senator Martinez. In 2012, after a new census, redistricting will take place and Democrats need to have a serious role in drawing the map. Florida is likely to pick up 3-4 new congressional seats, which means 3-4 additional electoral votes, making it even more important to keeping a U.S. House majority and an increased role in presidential races to come.

Winning Florida could be what gets Barack over the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency. But it will also be a major moral boost and provide momentum for Florida Democrats to build and succeed in the future.”

I’ve noticed Sen. Obama looks a bit haggard this week, almost as though he were worried about something. It could very well be his sick grandmother and I’m sure that has a lot to do with his worries, but it wouldn’t explain why he spent two days in Pennsylvania this week, Biden spending one with him and another by himself and Bill Clinton hustling votes for him in Pennsylvania Thursday.

Why all this attention to Pennsylvania by Barack Obama in the final week of the campaign if internal polls are not showing a disturbing trend? After all, Pennsylvania was supposed to be a reliably blue state.

Here is the opening line of the above-linked story:

In a phone interview with FOX News, Barack Obama’s deputy campaign manager, Steve Hildebrand said: “John McCain is right. Things are tightening in the battleground states.”

Hildebrand then goes on to admit similar memos were sent to North Carolina, Georgia and Ohio, but says things are not so “acute” in Pennsylvania.

Hmmm. We shall see what we shall see next Tuesday, but knowing how many stops he and surrogates have made in “safe” Pennsylvania when the plan was to campaign in “safe” Red States makes me think Hildebrand doth protest too much.

Obama has a well-oiled campaign machine, tons of money, and most of the press on his side. McCain has run a lousy campaign, has stuck to $84 million in public campaign financing, has been hit upside the head with almost everything the Obama press has to use, Sarah Palin has been personally attacked as well as her family, and yet Obama is still campaigning in Pennsylvania. He can’t quite close the sale and with new information about PLO links he has to be hoping the LA Times will stick to its guns and not release the tape that will probably be more damaging than the written transcript. Otherwise, why not ask for its release if it would help him?

We have heard the Obama campaign plans a victory party that includes caviar. (How “middle-class”. I eat it once a week. NOT!) They can still have the caviar, but will it be a victory party or a pity party?

Again, we shall see what we shall see next Tuesday.

Folks, if you don’t have the heebie jeebies yet about Obama I don’t know what it’s going to take.

I am a partisan Republican but I have never in my life been so afraid of a man becoming president as I am of Barack Obama. This is the truth as straight as I can give it.

We are hearing now of the change he is going to bring. He said it to Joe the Plumber and everyone laughed at that. Now we know and have heard, thanks to the post Sue made below this one, that Obama has harbored these thoughts for at least seven years and most likely most of his life.

It’s not too late if you haven’t already voted to change your mind and vote for the only choice that makes sense to keep the great United States of America the country we grew up in and have loved all our lives.

You earned your money and you should decide if you want to give it to someone and who that someone will be if you do.

I beg you to consider this and your country as we get ready to go to the polls in one week and one day.

You Have To Pay To Play

The Obama campaign should be paying the media on election night should he win…not the other way around:

WASHINGTON—The Obama campaign is putting a hefty price tag on the best camera and reporting positions for news organizations covering Barack Obama’s outdoor election night activities in downtown Chicago. If a reporter wants access to the file center–which will be the best place to find Obama officials and spokesmen–be prepared to write a check for $935. The cheapest place a reporter could stand on a riser with a view is $880.

That $935 covers one reporter in a heated file tent, power, cable tv, internet and food. I am told by an Obama spokesman who did not want his name used that this just covers costs and they are not turning a profit on this. The planners could have built in more al a carte options for Grant Park coverage.

This is an outrageous pay to play plan that caters to national elite outlets with deep pockets.

I am not asking for a free ride–but this is pricey and does not take into account some reporters won’t need power, cable, internet or food but will crave the access more than the food. As I was talking to this unnamed spokesman about this enormously expensive set-up, he did say–that a news outlet could rotate people in and out of the tent on that one credential. Great.

A general media area will be created where a reporter could watch for free, but the set-up is separate, unequal and clearly second class when it comes to getting top access to campaign people.

But Obama says he’s just “a guy who lives in my neighborhood.”

Don’t Tell Barack Obama That Money Can’t Buy Happiness (Or The White House)

We have lost our way:

When the numbers are all in and tallied, if Obama wins, we are going to find that he will have spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $750,000,000 between the primary and general campaigns in order to buy himself and the Democrat party the White House.

[emphasis-mine]

*Update: Another interesting perspective on this issue from John at Power Line:
(the new site design there is really sharp)

But wait! We know that Obama is in favor of “spreading the wealth around” so as to achieve what he thinks is fairness. So presumably Obama will be willing to share his vast resources with the McCain campaign so the playing field will be level for the last weeks of the campaign. That’s only fair, right? What do you say, Barack? And if not, why not?

Good question, don’t you think?

Spread This Around!

Plumber Joe gets his due.

While the media is doing their level best to destroy the man we will be happy to show our support and gratitude for the man who would question Barack Obama.

Thanks to Iowahawk for the link to the graphic and this:

We’ve all witnessed a lot of insanity in American politics over the last few years. Up until the last few days, none of it has seriously bothered me; hey, just more grist for the satire mill. But after witnessing the media’s blitzkreig on Joe ‘the Plumber’ Wurzelbacher, I can only muster anger, and no small amount of fear.

Politicians — Sarah Palin, Bill Clinton, et al. — obviously have to put up with some rude, nasty shit, but it’s right there in the jobs description. Joe the Plumber is different. He was a guy tossing a football with his kid in the front yard of his $125,000 house when a politician picked him out as a prop for a 30 second newsbite for the cable news cameras. Joe simply had the temerity to speak truth (or, if you prefer, an uninformed opinion) to power, for which the politico-media axis apparently determined that he must be humiliated, harassed, smashed, destroyed. The viciousness and glee with which they set about the task ought to concern anyone who still cares about citizen participation, and freedom of speech, and all that old crap they taught in Civics class before politics turned into Narrative Deathrace 3000, and Web 2.0 turned into Berlin 1932.0.
