Just Another Night At The Races

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

I must say it, even though it might be unpopular..I felt sorry for Barack Obama last night.
What a shame that his words had to be lost once again in the rhetoric (and plea for money) from one (at least at this writing) candidate.
Having watched all three speeches, I can only summarize this way:
John [...]

Perish The Thought

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

This may be only the thoughts of one writer but when I read this paragraph (particularly the final sentence), it made me silently scream NO!
It’s called scorched earth. The Clintons are not accustomed to losing and it seems they’re going to make the Democratic party pay for not choosing her. This primary may end up [...]

Obama Looks to Be Apparent Democratic Presidential Nominee

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

After the drubbing Hillary Clinton took last night in North Carolina and the too close for comfort win in Indiana for her, it appears even she recognizes now Obama will be the Democratic nominee for president.
She has cancelled all public appearances for Wednesday after lending her campaign another 6.4 million dollars. The question she [...]

An entertaining overview of the democratic race is what this video provides. Full of facts and laced with humor, it is well worth the few minutes it requires for viewing.

Richardson Has Good Third Quarter

Monday, October 1st, 2007

New Mexico Governor and presidential hopeful Bill Richardson has had a good third quarter in fund-raising, raising about $5.2 million, bringing his yearly total to about $18 million.
The third quarter is usually a slow quarter in fund-raising because everyone is already tapped out.
This puts Richardson in a strong fourth place for the Democratic race for [...]

“Oh what a tangled web we weave…….

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

The Democrats seem to have a candidate for the Presidency who has a bit of a problem with being less than truthful.
For those who need a bit of a refresher course in some of Mrs. Clintons prevarications,(although I know some would call it political “spin”;) this should help.
As Hillary Clinton rises in [...]

Leaked Democratic Poll Shows Hillary Could Hurt Down Ticket Candidates

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

According to The Telegraph in the UK, a leaked Democratic poll shows the concern some in the Democratic party have over a Hillary Clinton presidential nomination.
A leaked Democratic poll has suggested that Hillary Clinton, the frontrunner in the race for the party’s presidential nomination, could lose the 2008 election because of her “very polarised image”. [...]

If a Democrat Wins White House, How Would He or She Fund All Those Promises?

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

The Democratic presidential candidates are promising universal health care, billions on bridges, universal pre-kindergarten and more funding for cancer research.
How do they plan to pay for them? By ending the present tax cuts on people in the $200,000 to $250,000 and up income range.
The problem is those cuts are in effect until 2010 [...]

I’ll Sacrifice When You Do, Sen. Edwards

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Former Senator and current presidential candidate John Edwards has said Americans should sacrifice SUVs to save on fuel.
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards told a labor group that he would ask Americans to make a big sacrifice: their sport utility vehicles.
“I think Americans are actually willing to sacrifice,” Edwards said [...]

Clinton Catches It For Bringing Up Another Terrorist Attack

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

Hillary Clinton is being criticized by other Democratic presidential candidates for a statement she made regarding a possible new terrorist attack on the United States.
Fellow democrats blasted Hillary Clinton yesterday for speculating about the political fallout of a potential terrorist attack before the 2008 election, accusing her of exploiting voters’ fears to bolster her campaign.
“Frankly, [...]

Democrats see Clinton as strongest, most experienced leader.

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

Well I guess Mr. Edwards tactics of attacking Hillary and Obama are driving him further down in the polls.
– Potential Democratic primary voters see Sen. Hillary Clinton as more experienced and a stronger leader than her major rivals for the 2008 Democratic nomination, according to a poll released Monday.
Clinton is also viewed as the [...]

Edwards daughter received Murdoch money.

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

I find myself agreeing with the last paragraph.
Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards recently defended taking a lucrative book contract from a publisher controlled by Rupert Murdoch — whose News Corp. empire Edwards has sharply criticized — by insisting that “every dime” of his $500,000 advance went to charity.
Left unmentioned by Edwards, however, was that [...]

One Newspaper, Two Op-Eds on Same Topic, Two Different Views

Friday, July 27th, 2007

By now everyone knows Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are still arguing over an answer given in the YouTube debate on Monday night.
The question was: “Would you be willing to meet separately, without precondition, during the first year of your administration, in Washington or anywhere else, with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and [...]

Democratic Presidential Candidates to Have First-Ever Gay Debate.

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

I realize that this is going to make a lot of people uncomfortable but it’s still news.

McGovern Not Sure Anti-War Dem Can Win

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

Read this report from Politico and you will see there are differences in the Democratic party as to how far to go anti-war in the campaign.
As George McGovern is loosely quoted as saying, it wins the primary but it doesn’t win the general election.
For Democrats of a certain age, there is no figure more haunting [...]

Biden Calls Bush “Brain Dead”

Friday, July 6th, 2007

From the Senator who was found to be a plagiarizer in his last campaign for president, comes the unforgettable and hateful words that President Bush is “brain dead.”

A Stark Edge in Race for ‘08 Cash.

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

I guess the Republicans are in for long time out of power. What happened?
Campaign contributors to the 2008 presidential candidates heavily favored Democrats in the three-month period that ended Saturday, giving three dollars to the party’s leading contenders for every two dollars they gave to the top Republican candidates.
Democratic Sen. Barack Obama’s 258,000 contributors since [...]

SCOTUS Ruling and Democratic Presidential Debate

Friday, June 29th, 2007

Yesterday the Supreme Court rejected Louisville, Ky., and Seattle, Wa., diversity plans because they were based solely on race for school assignments but the Court left the door open for using race in limited circumstances.
The court split, 5-4, with Chief Justice John Roberts announcing the court’s judgment. The court’s four liberal justices dissented.
The districts “failed [...]

Shrum’s View of Edwards

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

Bob Shrum, political adviser to many Democrats including Al Gore and John Kerry, started out before the 2004 campaign as a supporter of John Edwards.
That soon changed, as this story in The New Republic shows:
Shrum discovered Edwards during the North Carolinian’s first Senate campaign in 1998. Shrum writes that, after his encounter with Edwards, [...]

John Edwards Speaks at College About Poverty

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

Speech including airfare and travel: $55,000
Haircut: $400
Hypocricy: Priceless to other Democratic candidates
Story here.
I seriously doubt Edwards will be the Democratic nominee for president or the running mate this time as he didn’t do such a good job of being a running mate last time.
If he stays in the top three and things tighten up [...]

Is There Anyone Qualified To Be President of the United States?

Saturday, May 12th, 2007

President Obama? Not This Time According to Op-Ed From Boston Globe

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

I’ll let the op-ed speak for itself:
Stop me if you’ve read this column before.
In 1999, I wrote a dreamy tribute to then presidential candidate Bill Bradley and commented: “I don’t believe that I will ever live in a country that elects Bill Bradley president. I’d like to live in that country, though.”
In 2002, 27 [...]

Hedge Funds and Wal-Mart Discussed in Dem Debate

According to this Washington Times story fundraisers in the Democrat party are not so eager to raise money for Mrs. Clinton these days due to the pressure they say they are getting from her campaign.
