According to an unnamed friend in this Politico post John Edwards will suspend his campaign and might pull out of the race due to a recurrence of his wife’s cancer that was diagnosed at the end of the 2004 campaign.

According to this WRAL television report John Edwards has left the campaign trail to be with his wife while she had a follow-up exam on her status of the breast cancer she had.
Hopefully they will be announcing good news, but realistically, they haven’t called a press conference before to do so.
