God Has Blessed Us This Week Especially

On Tuesday I told you our daughter in law had been taken by ambulance to the hospital for a suspected aneurysm in her brain. After sending emails to our church list and to prayer warriors on my email list we were so relieved to get the answer in such a short time. She suffered a “complicated” migraine and sinus infection and thus the blood in her spinal fluid. She is feeling fine now.

What I didn’t tell you was that my husband had to undergo an endoscopy and colonoscopy on Friday due to the lab having found blood in his stool.

We spent the afternoon at the hospital with the doctor running about 40 minutes behind. Everyone in there to be tested was starving, but they had gone through the prep and had to stick it out. One doctor was on call at the ER as well as doing these scheduled procedures. Not very good scheduling on the part of his practice.

When I went back to the cubicle made with curtains my husband was lying there, seemingly awake, and doing what they tell you to do after this procedure.

Soon the doctor came in and told us he had removed a couple of polyps and could not find the source for the bleeding. He says that can happen from almost anything and my husband is on aspirin therapy per the instructions from his cardiologist. No, he doesn’t have heart trouble yet. They are watching a couple of small blood vessels to make sure they don’t get more blockage than they have.

My husband has to go back June 6 to have his colon checked with barium and an X-Ray. This is because my husband has gained weight and his colon has grown as a result. The doctor ran out of tube to check the entire colon and wants to see all of it.

We expect he will be fine and he went to bed almost as soon as he got something light to eat last night. He’s still snoozing away.

Just when Satan tries to put doubts in my mind about God and Jesus, the Lord takes them out by showing us the power or prayer and His healing powers.

We truly had the peace that passes understanding with my husband’s condition, but our daughter in law threw us for a loop since she has a history of cancer brought on by Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. At one time she had three tumors on the base of her skull, and we thought they might be acting up.

Fortunately, that was not the case.

I cannot appropriately praise God in words even in the best of times, but at times like this I feel even more humble.

Words are not enough to express my love for each of you for praying for Lucy and probably for Don too as you read Sue’s post on Friday to pray for us.

It’s so wonderful to know the Lord, and if we didn’t have Him we would have been downcast at the very least. I’m convinced of that.

Now I’m also exhausted as I didn’t realize the strain on me until it was all over. I never panic as long as I know something has to be done, but after it’s all over, I collapse in exhaustion and exhilaration at what Jesus has done for us in addition to His blood sacrifice on the Cross of Calvary.

Have a wonderful week-end, everyone, and please go to church on Sunday. You will be amazed at how blessed you will be.

Is There Hope for Baghdad?

On several occasions we have posted links to the work of civilian embeds who travel with our troops in Iraq. I have a great deal of admiration for these individuals, as they are risking their own lives and existing in the same difficult conditions as our military on a daily basis.

The good and the bad, the failures and successes and the bravery and fortitude of our forces always come through in the articles by each of these men.

This piece from Bill Roggio gives us an up close and personal look at the situation in Baghdad. The capital has been the topic of much discussion and difference of opinion in the American press so I thought perhaps you might like a bit of firsthand information.

Compared to other regions south of Baghdad, where the Iraqi Police Volunteers and the Concerned Citizens have organized to fight al Qaeda, the eastern neighborhoods of Doura have no such organized security movement. The locals are “organized in an intelligence capacity but not in a security capacity,” Coffey stated. “There are no sheikhs or influential tribal leaders for the men to turn to,” as the tribal influences are marginalized in the bigger cities.

Coffey and his soldiers are seeking influential community leaders to organize the Sunnis and Christians to stand against al Qaeda. But in the interim, the local intelligence network is paying off dividends with IED finds and weapons caches turned in. The Iraqi sources tipped off US troops to the location of multiple IEDs during a single day’s operations. “Each day we get better and better tips,” Coffey said.

“The tide of anti-al Qaeda cooperation has rolled from Anbar province to the south of Baghdad and now into Baghdad itself,” said Coffey. “But it will take time.”

The question is, will the American people have the patience and understanding to allow for the time needed to bring peace to the country of Iraq. Only time will tell.

Senator Johnson returns to the Senate

Republicans and Democrats alike should be delighted and even amazed at the progress Senator Tim Johnson has made in record time. He ws extended a warm welcome upon his return to the Capitol yesterday.

The U.S. Senate welcomed back South Dakota Democrat Tim Johnson Wednesday as he rallies from a life-threatening brain hemorrhage that felled him in December.

“It’s great to be home,” Johnson said as colleagues acknowledged his return with a standing ovation, Congressional Quarterly reported.

The official welcome came when senators adopted a resolution extending “their warmest welcome” and expressing their “personal happiness at his return” and very best wishes for his continued health.”

This is such a remarkable recovery and show of determination on the part of Senator Johnson. May he continue to recuperate at this rate and become a fully productive representative of his constituents again soon.

A Record Setting Fundraiser

Some celebrities are remembered for the great movie in which they starred, others for that one song that remains associated with them through the ages. Many have worked diligently for or donated to various charities through the years but one man, every year, has raised mega bucks for a worthwhile organization. That man is none other than Jerry Lewis.

Showman Jerry Lewis raised nearly $64 million on Monday during his annual Labor Day Telethon to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association, topping last year’s event by $3 million.
“We did it. We did it. I got my buck more. And more. We can go shopping,” a jubilant Lewis said as the tote board topped $63.7 million for his 42nd telethon. Last year’s record was $61 million.

As in the past, the International Association of Fire Fighters anchored the donations from local fill-the-boot drives with $25.2 million, eclipsing last year’s $23.5 million.

“Whoa, whoa firefighters. They’re all my heroes—every firefighter you see,” Lewis said.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is blessed to have this man and every individual who contributed to make this fundraiser a phenomenal success. Well done.

An Amazing Birth

This is incredible! I know I have never read or heard of it happening before.

A 35-year-old Canadian woman has given birth to rare identical quadruplets, officials at a Great Falls hospital said Thursday. Karen Jepp of Calgary, Alberta, delivered Autumn, Brooke, Calissa and Dahlia by Caesarian section Sunday afternoon at Benefis Healthcare, said Amy Astin, the hospital’s director of community and government relations.

The four girls were breathing without ventilators and listed in good condition Thursday, she said.

“These babies are doing grand,” said Dr. Tom Key of Great Falls, the perinatologist who delivered the girls.

The babies were born about two months early and were conceived without fertility drugs, he said. They weighed between 2.6 pounds and 2.15 pounds.

Can you imagine having four girls in the house who are identical? Wow, could they pull some fast ones on people.

Senator Johnson’s Remarkable Recovery

This is indeed good news.

South Dakota Sen. Tim Johnson will face his constituents for the first time since suffering a brain hemorrhage last December, making a long-awaited public appearance in his home state later this month.

Johnson, a Democrat, will appear in Sioux Falls on Aug. 28, his office announced Thursday. He is expected to return to the Senate in September.

A release from Johnson’s office said the event will be “a welcome home celebration in which Sen. Johnson will personally thank the people of South Dakota for their support.”

Political views should be put aside when it comes to a life and death situation such as the one Senator Johnson has faced.

Well done on your recovery Senator, and may you continue to progress and you and your family have many happy years together.

Mystery Marine Revealed

A few days ago J posted this video of a Marine who has obvious, strong feelings about the defense of our country.

When the video was being widely circulated, no one seemed to know the identity of this Marine but now thanks to Blackfive we have a name to put with the face.

Most of you saw this video when we posted it earlier this week, and most of you wrote to say how wonderful it was. It contained many heartfelt sentiments about what being an American and an American fighting man means. The artist was unknown, until now. Ladies and Gentlemen I introduce you to SSGT Lawrence E. Dean II. A reader who may claim her kudos in the comments if she wants to, alerted us that SSgt Dean was the artist and he worked with her husband. She sent along B5 contact info and then let me know we needed to coordinate with the Cherry Point PAO and Mr. Mike Barton was very helpful and facilitated a phone interview w/ SSGT Dean. Here is the coolest thing, the piece is titled And She Called, well She is his Grandma and the piece is his explanation to her of why he would go to war. She inspired the video, but the reference in the video itself is about America calling. WOW! It was great to talk with him and I wish him the best in what could be a second career. Semper Fi!

Let me say thanks to SSGT Dean for reminding us why our military fights for freedom.

Head on over to Blackfive to hear an interview with this Marine which explains his video even further. Congrats and thanks to them for locating SSGT Dean and sharing him with all of us.
