Beautiful Christmas Sights and Sounds
Did your town make the list of the Top Ten Christmas Towns in the United States?
Christmas is a magical time of year, celebrated in unique ways across America. Travel to 10 different communities — from Alaska to Maine — each rich in its own culture and traditions, as they prepare for the holiday season. On the sea, on the shore, atop mountains and in underground caverns, join in each town’s heartfelt festivities as they share their glad tidings and Christmas stories.
I happened to see the actual show on the HGTV and it was a delight. If you have a few extra minutes, the videos at the link are well worth a view.
Yummy Homemade Holiday Treats
Easy, inexpensive ideas for homemade gifts or additions to your holiday gathering menu.
My grandmother never tired of telling us about her first Christmas as a married woman during the Great Depression. There was no money for gifts or a fancy holiday feast, but my grandfather lovingly made her a cup of hot cocoa that morning — the best cocoa she ever tasted — from a splash of hoarded milk and a melted chocolate candy he’d bought for a penny. It was a breakfast she never forgot, and no lavish present ever moved her more.
As we face the holiday season with worries about stretched budgets and shrinking retirement accounts, gifts from the hearth seem more compelling than ever. We’ve put together a varied collection of recipes aimed at pleasing everyone on your list. None requires particular culinary skill or pricey ingredients, and all will say you care in a very special way.
My personal favorite? Microwave Pistachio Brittle but there are several others at the link above.
Beautiful photos of a solemn event
The wreath laying ceremony took place yesterday at Arlington.
It began with an 8:30 a.m. report to duty Saturday at Arlington National Cemetery where we heard Morrill Worcester’s remarks about those we would soon remember and honor with Christmas wreaths.
Much more including many wonderful photographs at The Radio Patriot.

A Poem From a Special Girl
My ten year old granddaughter has been dabbling in poetry for the past couple of weeks.
Here’s one she wrote on the spur of the moment and then had to present it to the school board last night since the teacher who volunteered her to do a presentation of a social studies project was not there and did not send the project for Ashley to present.
Instead she flew by the seat of her pants and used this poem.
Hanukkah, Kwanza, Christmas too
All celebrated by me and you
Lights and decorations all over the place
That special expression on your face
But what do these holidays really mean
Is it not more than a big, fat tree?
Yes! There is a meaning to each holiday
That is why they are special days

Update: I was copying and pasting from a pdf file and it copied some text that wasn’t supposed to be there and left out text that was supposed to be there.
Thankfully her Mom emailed me with the correct words in the correct places.
If you want that perfect Christmas tree, you may have to tag/buy it early this year
For those who look to purchase a live tree each year for Christmas, you may want to have a look at this video.
Certain areas of the country will be facing shortages this year due to several different conditions and it would be a shame, if you are looking to locate a great tree, to wait too long and find supplies very limited.
A Little Johnny Cash goes a Long Way
A little something from Johnny Cash to remind us what is really important as we head in to the holiday season.
Hope you enjoy!
For those who will travel this weekend to spend their time with family and friends, have a safe journey and enjoy every moment!
