Our “Cowboy” President Rides Into The Sunset

The Anchoress posted a wonderful tribute to President Bush and has followed up with many, many links worthwhile following.

Here at ~J’s~ we had considered a review of the President’s two terms but with all that has been written, (very well I might add) it would seem repetitive.

We thought we might take a bit of a different approach and begin by asking if former First Lady Barbara Bush ever gave thought to the lyrics of this song when George W. was born:

YouTube Preview Image

“And them that don’t know him won’t like him
And them that do sometimes won’t know how to take him.

He ain’t wrong, he’s just different
But his pride won’t let him do things to make you think he’s right.”

Now it’s certain Mrs. Bush had no idea that her son would one day become President of the United States.

If she had she might have discouraged him from first becoming the Governor of the Lone Star State in hopes to spare him the “cowboy” image with which he was branded.

Rush Limbaugh once wrote this:

It used to tick me off when the Muslim detractors in the Middle East, or the socialist detractors in Europe, Hollywood and others called our President a cowboy, but the more I think about it, the more glad I am that he is.

If cowboy means that we have slept safely in our beds the last seven years due to steadfastness in the face of fury then George Bush was every bit a cowboy.

If “cowboy” defines a man who occasionally wore his heart on his sleeve when dealing with those in times of trauma and trouble then President Bush should wear the title as a badge of honor.

Look at some of the other definitions Rush lays out in his piece:

1. They were never looking for trouble.

2. But when trouble came, they faced it with courage.

3. They were always on the side of right.

4. They defended good people against bad people.

5. They had high morals.

6. They had good manners.

7. They were honest.

8. They spoke their minds and they spoke the truth, regardless of what people thought or “political correctness,” which no one had ever heard of back then.

Each and every one defines this good man who has served his country with honor for the past eight years.

President Bush will be missed, not by everyone, but by those who have stood by him through thick and thin.

Those who accepted his mistakes as ones of a mortal (and while we might have disagreed we understood there is no perfection) and those who believe him when he relays he always did what he felt was right for this country.

President Bush will relinquish the big chair on Tuesday and head home to his beloved Texas.

May he and Mrs. Bush live the balance of their years in peace and surrounded by those they love most.

Just one little word of advice..please, never, ever give up the hat!

~J~ adds: Thank you for this wonderful tribute to a fine man who was hated for no real reason. He did his best and his best wasn’t good enough for some. History will be kind to him.

Friday Fly-By

~o)There are football fans and then there is this young man:

~o)The most sensible and concise article I have read to date on “Operation Chaos” appeared in the Washington Post:

Those looking for evidence of Limbaugh’s influence pointed to Clinton’s edge among Republicans in Indiana and North Carolina. In Indiana, 10 percent of Democratic primary voters described themselves as Republicans, a higher rate than in any state but Mississippi, and they went for Clinton by eight percentage points, according to exit polls. In North Carolina, they were 5 percent of the electorate, and went for her by 29 points.

~o)Imagine being the parent of a child who goes from perfectly healthy to being confined to a wheelchair with an affliction which cannot be identified. That is precisely the case for the Searle family shown in the video below:

The insurance company this family is contracted with should be ashamed that they will not agree to any and all tests needed to identify what has invaded this child’s body.

Perhaps the more exposure this story receives, the more pressure they will feel to do what is right by this child and her family.

Rush Limbaugh’s transcript discussing Harry Reid

The transcript of Rush Limbaugh’s show yesterday really says it all. The “we” factor that Harry Reid attempted to interject in his little speech on the Senate floor was so far out of line that anyone with a bit of common sense could read into exactly what he trying to accomplish.

While the entire show from yesterday is available
here,
what I considered a key paragraph by Mr. Limbaugh follows.

RUSH: This attempt by Harry Reid to take to the floor of the Senate at 12 noon Eastern Time today to personalize this and make it about himself, you just know the mainstream media, the Drive-Bys, will get on this story now and Reid will end up being very positively portrayed. He has quotes about how “we” never thought that the letter would generate this kind of money. “We” never thought…? “Mark May and I…” It’s Mays! “Mark May and I talked about this, and Mark May and I…” Senator Reid, let me be clear about this one more time — actually, as many times as it takes. It wasn’t your letter that raised this money. It was your abuse of power that is responsible for raising this money. No other letter you have written would be… People wouldn’t pay a dime for it, Senator! This one represents an abuse of power: a federal government official, a US senator, getting hold — after besmirching me and smearing me by name personally from the Senate floor, gets hold — of the CEO of my syndication partner and asks him to “confer” with me about something Senator Reid thought was said that was improper? Words? First Amendment? Free speech? That, sir, is an abuse of power. That is why your letter is historic, not because you signed it, not because 40 other people signed it, not because you wrote it. It is because of what that letter represents: a full-fledged, undeniable, 100% abuse of power, and that’s how this letter will be remembered by historians forever.

Senator Reid probably would have been better off just to let the final hours of this auction pass without comment, however, given the nature of the beast I do not believe he is capable of gracious defeat. You can “we” till the cows come home Senator, and even pat yourself on the back for a job well done, but you and your friends in the press might be surprised how many disagree.

The real winners here are the children of the fallen heroes. Obviously while many of us were cheering the numbers on ebay, rooting for the total to continue to rise for the benefit of those who really need the assistance, Senator Reid was opining how he could be the “winner.”

Sad, very sad.

If at first you don’t succeed, jump on the ship that has

Take a look at the sidebar and you will see the winning bid for Rush Limbaugh’s EBay auction of the letter of condemnation by Harry Reid and some of his cohorts.

The winning bid was $2,100,100, and Rush will match that amount to go to this worthy cause.

How do you like them apples, Mr. Reid? Your letter actually helped military and law enforcement families.

We will take down the widget on Monday so everyone has a chance to see the winning bid.

Rush is also selling signed copies for $1,000 each to anyone who wants to donate. Go to his site to get yours.

Senator Reid has effectively done nothing since becoming Senate Majority Leader. Nothing but insult the President of the United States, provide soundbites for a willing press and attempt a takedown of conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh.

Sadly for the Senator, none of those things have worked in his favor.

The President is still at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the press, while it laps up his words, really has not given the Senator much credit for anything (there really is nothing to give credit for) and Rush Limbaugh just beat him at his own game.

I think the Leader also missed another important point. There are many conservatives who do not listen to talk radio or talking heads on television. But this maneuver by Reid and his fellow Senators, purely for politics, awakened many to support Limbaugh who otherwise pay little attention.

Instead of saying congratulations on the amazing amount raised by Rush, Mr. Reid tries to turn the tables and take credit for what is not his:

NOW, EVERYONE KNOWS THAT RUSH LIMBAUGH AND I DON’T AGREE ON EVERYTHING IN LIFE AND MAYBE THAT IS KIND OF AN UNDERSTATEMENT. BUT WITHOUT QUALIFICATION MARK MAY, THE OWNER OF THE NETWORK THAT HAS RUSH LIMBAUGH AND RUSH LIMBAUGH SHOULD KNOW THAT THIS LETTER THAT THEY’RE AUCTIONING IS GOING TO BE SOMETHING THAT RAISES MONEY FOR A WORTHWHILE CAUSE. I DON’T KNOW WHAT WE COULD DO MORE IMPORTANT THAN HELPING TO ENSURE THAT CHILDREN OF OUR FALLEN SOLDIERS AND POLICE OFFICERS WHO HAVE FALLEN IN THE LINE OF DUTY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR THEIR CHILDREN TO HAVE A GOOD EDUCATION. THINK OF THIS, MORE THAN $2 MILLION — THAT WILL REALLY HELP. THAT’S, AGAIN, AN UNDERSTATEMENT. THERE’S ONLY A LITTLE BIT OF TIME LEFT SO I WOULD ASK THOSE THAT ARE WANTING TO DO MORE, THAT THEY CAN GO TO HARRY REID LETTER AND IT WILL COME UP ON E-BAY. I ENCOURAGE ANYONE INTERESTED WITH THE MEANS TO CONSIDER CONTRIBUTING TO THIS WORTHWHILE CAUSE. I STRONGLY BELIEVE WHEN WE CAN PUT OUR DIFFERENCES ASIDE, EVEN HARRY REID AND RUSH LIMBAUGH, WE SHOULD DO THAT AND TRY TO ACCOMPLISH GOOD THINGS FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. THIS DOES THAT, MADAM PRESIDENT. MORE THAN $2 MILLION FOR A LETTER SIGNED BY THIS SENATOR AND MY FRIENDS.

What a bloated ego this man has. He thinks people were bidding on this letter because his signature was on it…Mr. “the war is lost” Reid, let me give you a clue. This had nothing to do with you and everything to do with Rush, his supporters and the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Fund. If you are so pleased with the outcome how about you pony up and match the funds raised?

Now that the Senator has been made to look a fool over this entire incident, he wants to be friends with Rush Limbaugh …he says they can do good things together. Perhaps he should have thought of that before he took to the Senate floor and attempted to destroy the career of another man.

HT: Captains Quarters

*Update: ABC News apears to live in the same fantasy land as Senator Reid.

The bidding ends at 1:00p.m. No mater what, Democrats are going to make a ton of money for a charity off their political vitriol.

Unbelieveable!

Free copies of the Limbaugh/Reid letter now available

Rush Limbaugh not only will raise a ton of money for a very important cause, but has now made the famous letter available to all who would like to print it for themselves free of charge, or make a donation no matter the size, to the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Fund:

It’s gotten to… You know, $65,100 now is unaffordable for a whole lot of people, so what we have done is put a PDFfile of all four pages of the letter in blazing, brilliant full color, suitable for free download. Many people have said, “Hey, I can’t afford that $65,000, but I’d love to donate something to the MC-LEF for a copy.” Well, you can do that, but you don’t have to donate in order to get it. We want as many people to have a copy of this letter as possible. It’s the United States Senate’s official smear of a private citizen. I know I’m a public figure, but I’m a private citizen. I’m not a politician. I’m not running for office. I have no influence over what government does in terms of having votes there. I’m not a candidate for anything. So that’s the distinction. I’m working in the private sector. The Constitution is supposed to protect people like me, all of you, from this type of action from the federal government. That’s what’s so historic about this, and whoever does end up being the high bidder for the Harry Reid letter is going to have a genuine historic document, with all those signatures. You’ve got Ted Kennedy on there, Barack Obama, Chris Dodd, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Imagine what Rush must be thinking now that the value of this letter is simply skyrocketing.

I know that many families will benefit from the money raised in this endeavor and for that I am very grateful to Mr. Limbaugh. Well Done!

National Defense Authorization Bill vs. Rush Limbaugh

The National Defense Authorization Act passed the Senate yesterday but with no assistance from the front runners in the Presidential race on the Democratic Side.

I had not realized that the Senate passed the Defense Department authorization yesterday until the Standard commented on it this morning. The spending bill passed overwhelmingly, 92-3, with only Robert Byrd, Tom Coburn, and Russ Feingold in opposition. Tellingly, the Democrats running for office from the Senate all managed to miss the vote — Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Chris Dodd, and Joe Biden.

Maybe they were just to concerned with condemning Rush Limbaugh.

On Monday, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) stepped onto the floor of the Senate and strongly denounced talk radio host Rush Limbaugh for what have proven to be out of context statements made by the conservative personality on his program last Wednesday.

It appears however, that those 41 Senators who signed this document will be disappointed as according to this letter the CEO of Clear Channel has no designs on removing or even disciplining Rush Limbaugh.

Perhaps Mr. May will also be worthy of a condemnation by what used to be the most deliberative body in Washington. I say used to be because in so many cases now, they appear more like kindergarten than grown, intelligent men and women.

Or maybe they should look back and see what one of their own said about those who purchase and wear medals which they have not earned:

“Shame on those who claim credit for acts of courage they did not commit, their lies are criminal” said Salazar. “Medal recipients are often too humble to parade their honors. By letting the phonies continue their masquerade, we diminish the honor of our true heroes. Federal law enforcement agents are willing to go after these frauds, Congress needs to provide the tools necessary to get the job done.”

So let’s see, those running for the highest office in the land would not commit themselves on a vote for the Defense Appropriations Bill, as that vote, be it yay or nay might harm them politically. But they can find the time to condemn a conservative talk radio host for a comment which has been well explained and as noted in this article has not even become a favorite target of the MSM.

I have my own opinion on which issue assists the voters in making their choice next November. Rush Limbaugh is just another voice on the radio, but the defense of our country is something on which I would like to know the stance of each individual candidate. If running for political cover is more important than convictions, then personally, I do not want to see any one of these Senators achieve their goal of CIC.

I Have Great Admiration for the US Military, but Rush is Right, There Are “Phony Soldiers”

It is not a habit of mine to listen to Rush Limbaugh but I must admit my interest was peaked upon hearing he had used the phrase”phony soldier.” In reading his transcript from the show, it makes perfect sense if you had at all followed the case of the individual he mentions. [Emphasis: mine]

Here is a Morning Update that we did recently, talking about fake soldiers. This is a story of who the left props up as heroes. They have their celebrities and one of them was Army Ranger Jesse Macbeth. Now, he was a “corporal.” I say in quotes. Twenty-three years old. What made Jesse Macbeth a hero to the anti-war crowd wasn’t his Purple Heart; it wasn’t his being affiliated with post-traumatic stress disorder from tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. No. What made Jesse Macbeth, Army Ranger, a hero to the left was his courage, in their view, off the battlefield, without regard to consequences. He told the world the abuses he had witnessed in Iraq, American soldiers killing unarmed civilians, hundreds of men, women, even children. In one gruesome account, translated into Arabic and spread widely across the Internet, Army Ranger Jesse Macbeth describes the horrors this way: “We would burn their bodies. We would hang their bodies from the rafters in the mosque.”

Now, recently, Jesse Macbeth, poster boy for the anti-war left, had his day in court. And you know what? He was sentenced to five months in jail and three years probation for falsifying a Department of Veterans Affairs claim and his Army discharge record. He was in the Army. Jesse Macbeth was in the Army, folks, briefly. Forty-four days before he washed out of boot camp. Jesse Macbeth isn’t an Army Ranger, never was. He isn’t a corporal, never was. He never won the Purple Heart, and he was never in combat to witness the horrors he claimed to have seen. You probably haven’t even heard about this. And, if you have, you haven’t heard much about it. This doesn’t fit the narrative and the template in the Drive-By Media and the Democrat Party as to who is a genuine war hero. Don’t look for any retractions, by the way. Not from the anti-war left, the anti-military Drive-By Media, or the Arabic websites that spread Jesse Macbeth’s lies about our troops, because the truth for the left is fiction that serves their purpose. They have to lie about such atrocities because they can’t find any that fit the template of the way they see the US military. In other words, for the American anti-war left, the greatest inconvenience they face is the truth.

And there have been others. Scott Beauchamp comes to mind immediately.

THE WEEKLY STANDARD has learned from a military source close to the investigation that Pvt. Scott Thomas Beauchamp–author of the much-disputed “Shock Troops” article in the New Republic’s July 23 issue as well as two previous “Baghdad Diarist” columns–signed a sworn statement admitting that all three articles he published in the New Republic were exaggerations and falsehoods–fabrications containing only “a smidgen of truth,” in the words of our source.

Separately, we received this statement from Major Steven F. Lamb, the deputy Public Affairs Officer for Multi National Division-Baghdad:

An investigation has been completed and the allegations made by PVT Beauchamp were found to be false. His platoon and company were interviewed and no one could substantiate the claims.

There are always those who have their own agenda no matter what the vocation and in this instance, I do agree with Rush. There are such things as “phony soldiers.” I’m just grateful they are not in the majority.

UPDATE: Here is Rush in his own words.
