America. Will She Be Recognizable In The Near Future?
Rick at Wizbang felt all Americans should hear Pat Condell speak.
If you are one who cherishes our values and freedoms then his suggestion is not a half bad idea:
*While we do not agree with the atheist views of Mr. Condell, the balance of the video is well worth viewing*
One of the key elements in this commentary comes at the three minute mark:
The American government has now done something, that if they did it in their own country would violate the constitution.
They have co-sponsored a UN resolution that puts a limit on freedom of speech.
As if that was not enough, we now receive word that for the first time in history the United Nations will investigate the United States for human rights violations. If you have not seen this story already, be certain to read it in its entirely. HT:Gateway Pundit
Here are a few of the pertinent facts:
For those of you who have never even heard of a “Special Rapporteur,” you may be surprised to find out that one has been appointed by the United Nations (UN), under a special mandate from the UN Human Rights Council (the successor to the corrupt and anti-Israel UN Commission on Human Rights), to open a probe—for the first time ever— into human rights violations by the United States because of a perception that there isn’t enough affordable public housing in urban areas.
and the real kicker:
The report will be bad. That is a foregone conclusion. How will the UN punish the United States? That remains to be seen. Who gave the UN the right to send a Special Rapporteur on this tour of American cities in the first place, since UN Special Rapporteurs can only visit countries that have agreed to invite them?

Who gave them this right indeed? If permission was granted without the consent of the White House then shame on the administration for not taking immediate action to see it was reversed. If this tour was granted by the White House then it is an egregious move on their part.
My thoughts. Kick the United Nations (which has never done anything productive for the United States) out of America and use what we foolishly pay in UN dues to feed and clothe the homeless or provide medicine and food to seniors or children who are unable to do so for themselves.
Oh, and about all that hope and change. How are the recent unemployment numbers working out for you? Are you excited about the government taking over major corporations and limiting executive pay? How about that anticipation of being taken care of by government run health care institutions?
Then of course there is the disgraceful attempted marginalization of those opposed to the administration on talk radio and television. What’s next, perusing the internet and shutting down all contrary views?
If the UN decides we are not generous enough in providing housing in urban areas, then by all means, let’s turn over all we have earned or saved to show the world that America is a compassionate, giving country.
Talk about that old cliche, the people get the government they deserve jumping up to bite us.
America deserves better.
“The Long Sleep Is Over”
Contrary to what the press or politicians on the left profess:
We are not Nazis, we are not racists, we are not mobsters….
Worthwhile Reads
Well said:
Now many believe the stimulus package is an economic coup d’état, that it allows the feds to control Americans by doling out jobs and money. If the folks are dependent on one political party for their well-being, they’re always going to vote for that political party. That’s what happened in Illinois. The Democratic machine there bought so many voters it is essentially a one-party state. And we saw how that worked out.

And again:
What Obama, like Carter before, doesn’t get is it isn’t about him. Yeah, he’s some guy from Chicago (by way of Hawaii, Indonesia and wherever) but right now in everything he does he’s the living, walking embodiment of the United States of America. He may think he’s being cool and hip but eventually Americans will grow weary of seeing the symbols of the United States made small.
Once more, based on this report:
Ed asked this morning if any “preparations” have been made for that meeting of the minds Obama’s planning with Chavez. Given this bombshell, a better question might be just how long The One’s been “preparing.”
Another fun day at the office!
Traditional Values Down But Not Out
The midterm elections that swept congressional Democrats into power sparked fresh obituaries for the religious right.
Are the obituary writers correct? Is the traditional-values movement declining? Has the nation had enough of “moralizing busybodies,” as Newsweek’s Jonathan Alter put it, influencing policy?
[...] According to analysts on the left and right, the traditional-values movement isn’t dead or even dying. In fact, four of its largest groups — Family Research Council Action, Focus on the Family Action, American Values and Alliance Defense Fund — are planning their second “values voters summit” in October.
All 2008 presidential candidates have been invited to the event, which should rival the groups’ first summit, which drew more than 1,700 people in September. That gathering was similar in size to the “Road to Victory” Christian Coalition of America conferences of the 1990s.
This year’s values summit will focus on issues such as the sanctity of life, marriage, religious freedom, bioethics, immigration reform, health care, radical Islam, judicial activism, geopolitics, national security, Hollywood and the press.
Christians and social conservatives are “motivated by issues,” not partisan politics, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins explained at a press breakfast last month sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor. “They have a clear sense of right and wrong, and when they see wrong, they want to correct it.”
Many traditional-values activists think that the 2006 midterm elections were a wake-up call for their movement and that they must do some retrenching and rethinking of its strategies. Major topics of conversation include changes in the movement’s leadership and leadership style; greater outreach to minorities, women, youth and religious voters; and, at least some traditional-values leaders say, political independence.
“The traditionalists have to make their case more clearly and strongly,” said Robert Knight, director of the Culture and Media Institute at the Media Research Center, a conservative watchdog group. “They also can’t be dependent on one political party. They have to be independent. That’s how you have political clout.”
The traditional values groups are going to make the Republicans work as hard for their vote as the Democrats and are not going to be taken for granted anymore.
