America. Will She Be Recognizable In The Near Future?

Rick at Wizbang felt all Americans should hear Pat Condell speak.

If you are one who cherishes our values and freedoms then his suggestion is not a half bad idea:

*While we do not agree with the atheist views of Mr. Condell, the balance of the video is well worth viewing*

One of the key elements in this commentary comes at the three minute mark:

The American government has now done something, that if they did it in their own country would violate the constitution.

They have co-sponsored a UN resolution that puts a limit on freedom of speech.

As if that was not enough, we now receive word that for the first time in history the United Nations will investigate the United States for human rights violations. If you have not seen this story already, be certain to read it in its entirely. HT:Gateway Pundit

Here are a few of the pertinent facts:

For those of you who have never even heard of a “Special Rapporteur,” you may be surprised to find out that one has been appointed by the United Nations (UN), under a special mandate from the UN Human Rights Council (the successor to the corrupt and anti-Israel UN Commission on Human Rights), to open a probe—for the first time ever— into human rights violations by the United States because of a perception that there isn’t enough affordable public housing in urban areas.

and the real kicker:

The report will be bad. That is a foregone conclusion. How will the UN punish the United States? That remains to be seen. Who gave the UN the right to send a Special Rapporteur on this tour of American cities in the first place, since UN Special Rapporteurs can only visit countries that have agreed to invite them?

emphasis-admin

Who gave them this right indeed? If permission was granted without the consent of the White House then shame on the administration for not taking immediate action to see it was reversed. If this tour was granted by the White House then it is an egregious move on their part.

My thoughts. Kick the United Nations (which has never done anything productive for the United States) out of America and use what we foolishly pay in UN dues to feed and clothe the homeless or provide medicine and food to seniors or children who are unable to do so for themselves.

Oh, and about all that hope and change. How are the recent unemployment numbers working out for you? Are you excited about the government taking over major corporations and limiting executive pay? How about that anticipation of being taken care of by government run health care institutions?

Then of course there is the disgraceful attempted marginalization of those opposed to the administration on talk radio and television. What’s next, perusing the internet and shutting down all contrary views?

If the UN decides we are not generous enough in providing housing in urban areas, then by all means, let’s turn over all we have earned or saved to show the world that America is a compassionate, giving country.

Talk about that old cliche, the people get the government they deserve jumping up to bite us.

America deserves better.

The DOJ Wouldn’t, Would They?

In more than one conversation as George W. Bush was wrapping up his tenure as President, there were those who expressed that perhaps he should offer a blanket pardon to himself and those in his administration, primarily those who were involved in any facet of the War on Terror.

Recognizing the character and conviction of the former president, it never entered my mind that he would do such a thing.

Mr. Bush had realized foreign policy decisions based on intelligence afforded by not only our, but other nation’s intelligence, and was guided by legal opinions offered by those in the Justice Department.

He obeyed his Oath of Office in his choice to protect this country from all enemies foreign and domestic, and made the most difficult decision any Commander In Chief must, to commit our men and women to war.

Many who initially supported Bush in these decisions became weak-kneed as it became politically expedient to do so, but to his credit, he never did.

Were there errors in judgment by the former President, members of his administration and military personnel in the execution of the war, yes. Did they work to correct those missteps? Yes.

Has there ever been throughout history, a perfect war, one which did not require a change if not a complete overhaul of strategy? If there had been, we would never have had to mourn the loss of one of our bravest.

Channeling back to the original thought of this post, the pardons, after reading this today, I admit that my thinking they would never be necessary may have been reckless:

And then there is the Center for Constitutional Rights, a Marxist organization that for years has coordinated legal representation for terrorists detained at Guantanamo Bay. The CCR has been attempting to convince Germany, France, Spain, and other countries to file war-crime indictments against former Bush administration officials, including President Bush, Vice President Cheney, and Secretary Rumsfeld. In representing America’s enemies, CCR has collaborated with many private lawyers, who also volunteered their services — several of whom are now working in the Obama Justice Department. Indeed, Holder’s former firm boasts that it still represents 16 Gitmo detainees (the number was previously higher). And, for help shaping detainee policy, Holder recently hired Jennifer Daskal for DOJ’s National Security Division — a lawyer from Human Rights Watch with no prior prosecutorial experience, whose main qualification seems to be the startling advocacy she has done for enemy combatants.

Put it all together and it’s really not that hard to figure out what is going on here.

Transnationalists from outside and, now, inside our government have been ardent supporters of prosecutions against American officials who designed and carried out the Bush counterterrorism policies that kept this country safe after 9/11. The U.N.’s top torture monitor is demanding legal action, almost certainly as a prelude to calling for action by an international tribunal — such as the ICC — if the Justice Department fails to indict. Meantime, law-enforcement authorities in Spain and elsewhere are weighing charges against the same U.S. officials, spurred on by the CCR and human-rights groups that now have friends in high American places. In foreign and international courts, the terrorist-friendly legal standards preferred by Europe and the U.N. would make convictions easier to obtain and civil suits easier to win.

Read the entire piece by Andrew McCarthy. It encompasses a great deal of research which lend credence to his conclusions. Should things play out in the fashion he describes, America would face devastating consequences at the hands of those doing nothing more than appeasing a small voting block which they must please in order to remain in power.

The Holder DOJ has proven they are willing to take on the CIA. Would or will they move to allow foreign nations to attempt to prosecute American citizens, including a former President and Vice President, for war crimes?

At one time I would have offered a resounding no! The top law enforcement official of our land would never sacrifice an American (to another nation) for political gain. Today, I’m not so certain, and that to me is a great tragedy.

Another UN “Performance?”

There is no question that individuals like Iranian President Ahmadinejad thrive on all the press they receive in the United States. Let’s face it, his visit to NY has generated more than it’s share of commentary in all the various mediums.

Perhaps when he delivers his speech at the UN, he will explain the role of his country in supplying weapons to terrorists who kill our troops, or his statements concerning Israel, or maybe he will inform us how it is that he comes in “peace” to a place where over 3,000 Americans died at the hands of those he supports.

I doubt it. Until he has a satisfactory answer just for those few questions, (the list could go on forever), I prefer the approach of this former UN Ambassador to all the many headlines which will certainly be forthcoming.

“You should treat this as an off-Broadway production,” former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton said, describing the United Nations as a “Twilight Zone” that gives a platform to “tinhorn dictators.” “The General Assembly is the theater in which Ahmadinejad and others perform.”

Works for me.

Ahmadinejad to Grace Our Country Again

It’s once again the time of year when the despots of the world gather at the U.N. to denounce the United States and call our president Satan.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is scheduled to leave for New York on Sunday for a speech on Thursday, departing our country on Saturday.

I guess he needs the extra time to scope out what he wants to bomb first if given the chance.

But the Jewish community is going to protest his presence, as is their right.

A major drama is shaping up over the planned appearance at the United Nations next week of the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, with the Jewish community scheduling a protest rally, Mitt Romney calling on the world body to ban the tyrant, and the U.N. Security Council set to consider whether to increase sanctions against the mullahs for their uranium enrichment program.

In Vienna, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mohamed ElBaradei, is emerging as the top defender of Iran, arguing at the IAEA’s annual assembly yesterday that just as no weapons of mass destruction were found in Iraq, Iran does not present a nuclear menace now. He has been raging against any punitive measures, signing secret pacts with Tehran, and directly confronting not only America, Britain, and Germany but also France, where the Quai D’Orsay is warning of war.

But here in New York, the mood at Turtle Bay is less predictable than in the past, in part because, in sharp contrast to a former U.N. chief, Kofi Annan, Secretary-General Ban has signaled he may side with the West this time. And a Jewish community leadership, animated in part by the success Mr. Ahmadinejad has had in finding allies within the political debate in America, has scheduled a rally on Monday in front of the United Nations.

“It’s a message to the world leaders about their responsibility,” a vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, Malcolm Hoenlein, said. “This is somebody who violated the United Nations charter and should not be given that platform.”

Mr. Ahmadinejad is scheduled to speak at the U.N. General Assembly next week as the U.N. Security Council considers whether to increase sanctions against Iran for its uranium enrichment program

ElBaradei, defender of all rogue regimes with nuclear capabilities. And with the members on the Security Council we could say that group is as useless as a drone in a beehive.

New York City Police Department officials said yesterday that the city would deploy thousands of its officers to protect Mr. Ahmadinejad, along with the leaders of Iraq and Afghanistan and other countries as they gather for the 62nd session of the General Assembly, which technically opens today. Streets will be blocked off to protect the dignitaries as they move through the city and also to accommodate dozens of protests. …

…The prospect of Mr. Ahmadinejad visiting the city recalled the famous reaction of Theodore Roosevelt to the visit of a German anti-Semite to the city back in the days when Roosevelt was police commissioner. In his autobiography, published in 1913, Roosevelt wrote about how he assigned to the anti-Semite an all-Jewish security detail.

“The proper thing to do was to make him ridiculous,” Roosevelt wrote. “It was the most effective possible answer; and incidentally it was an object lesson to our people, whose greatest need is to learn that there must be no division by class hatred.”

Now that would be sweet revenge indeed!

Next up, the beloved Hugo Chavez, bearer of the torch of communism passed on by the almost late Fidel Castro.

What were the UN Weapons Inspectors thinking?

Maybe we should call for a complete investigation of the UN and their practices for storing WMD.

At the very least the weapons inspectors should be asked to explain the presence of an extremely dangerous chemical stored in the building in New York.

According to Reuters:

United Nations officials found vials of dangerous chemicals, which had been removed from Iraq a decade ago, in a U.N. building in New York, but U.N. officials said on Thursday there was no danger.

The FBI was called in to help remove the substances.

The material was phosgene, a chemical warfare agent, U.N. spokeswoman Marie Okabe told a news conference.

Why on earth were these vials stored in any office at the UN? Was this just sloppy work or will we find other WMD weapons inspectors managed to store improperly or not dispose of?

Just one more reason to distrust one of the most corrupt organizations allowed to house themselves on American soil.

Superhero Diplomacy

Should we replace the inept, corrupt and scandal ridden United Nations?

I have questioned for years why we pay an enormous price to belong to an institution which has scorned and belittled America for years.

Well now we are given some viable options laced with a bit of humor. (Be sure to check out the links.)

As for my vote, I’m with Don.

The U.N. Wants What???

The United Nations, the organization that seems to despise the US, has asked New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg if he would allow the U.N. to use some of New York’s Finest to be sent abroad as peacekeepers!

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon asked New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Wednesday whether some of the city’s police officers could be deployed with U.N. peacekeeping missions.
Recruiting police for the U.N.’s 16 peacekeeping missions around the globe has been historically challenging.

“New York City has one of the most diversified police forces around and I think the secretary-general would like to explore possibilities,” U.N. deputy spokeswoman Marie Okabe said before the meeting. “Getting police to join peacekeeping operations is one of the high priorities for the U.N.”

Bloomberg left the meeting without speaking to reporters. Stu Loeser, the mayor’s spokesman, said his office had no comment.

New York City has recently fallen short of its police recruiting goals so it’s unclear if it would have any officers to spare for international peacekeeping.

I thought the U.N. had blue-helmeted military people from the armies of the world to do peace-keeping operations. I was wrong.

The U.N. peacekeeping department said 321 American police officers are currently involved in missions abroad, primarily training local police

That’s kind of nice of the police departments, but I wonder who picks up the check for their pay and benefits. Not to mention how their cities can do without all the allotted police officers.

It Is Now Time For The US To Leave The UN And Send It To Brussels

The blogosphere is talking about this New York Sun story about counterfeit US dollars being produced in North Korea and 35 $100 bills being hidden in the UN safe there for quite some time.

As federal investigators examine how the leading U.N. agency in North Korea illegally kept 35 counterfeit American $100 bills in its possession for 12 years, documents indicate that more officials were aware of the existence of the fake currency —and earlier — than the agency has reported.

Spokesmen for the United Nations Development Program have said top officials at the agency’s New York headquarters learned in February that their safe in Pyongyang contained the counterfeit bills and immediately reported it to American authorities. But several documents shown recently to The New York Sun indicate that higher-ups knew much earlier that the safe held counterfeit money.

The documents are part of a worldwide reporting system that allows the agency to keep track of the contents of its office safes.

One “safe contents count record” — shown to the Sun with the stipulation that the paper omit such details as the exact issuing date, which was before February — confirms that fake money was in the safe in Pyongyang. According to a source familiar with the system, this and similar records were filed with UNDP headquarters twice a year.

Internal UNDP communication shown to the Sun also indicates that in at least one incident, a Pyongyang office manager reported the existence of the counterfeit money to his successor. Similar reports were filed with the seven managers that have served in North Korea since 1995. Some of these managers have returned to UNDP headquarters since then and now serve as top officials there.

The Secret Service and federal prosecutors in the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York are investigating the matter and have sought out at least 13 UNDP officials for interviews. But questions about diplomatic immunity and whether lawyers can represent the officials during those interviews have yet to be resolved.

“We are cooperating with the Southern District,” a senior U.N. official said yesterday, and added, “We are currently working out the modalities.” The official, who requested anonymity because the matter is under investigation, said that in the past, immunity has been lifted only when criminal indictments are handed out.

As usual, the UN is claiming, falsely, they made the US aware of the situation as soon as they found out about it in February.

Just as the UN peacekeepers didn’t help Hezbollah by reporting Israeli positions in the recent war between Israel and Hezbollah. If you believe that I have a bridge to nowhere to sell you.

The February date came shortly after the Wall Street Journal published a story, “Cash for Kim,” which reported that the UNDP violated its own rules by providing the North Korean dictator, Kim Jong Il, with hard currency. The agency’s board of directors, under American pressure, then instructed the UNDP to suspend its North Korean operation, and it was shuttered March 1.

UNDP officials concede that the increased outside scrutiny that resulted from the Journal article could have led the agency to examine its Pyongyang office more closely, which may have led to the discovery of the counterfeit cash.

Critics, however, allege that top officials deliberately concealed the existence of the counterfeit currency out of concern that the operation would be shut down, and that they reported it to the American authorities only after they realized that it would be suspended anyway.

The UN and its ruling dictators have not been friends of the United States for many many years.

Having them on US soil with diplomatic immunity only allows countries to spy on us and vote against anything that is in the interests of the free world.

The only thing they want from us is our dues and it’s time now to withdraw from that organization and let them use their Brussels headquarters as their world headquarters.

If they demand back dues we should pay them in Monopoly money.

They have allowed a rogue state, a declared enemy of our country, to counterfeit our money almost to perfection and not reported it to us until they got caught. They have allowed North Korea to undermine our economy and we must not ignore it.

Now they are protecting those who had a part in hiding this information from us and got promoted besides, from being questioned by our authorities, under the claim of diplomatic immunity until they are indicted.

How can we reasonably be expected to indict someone if we can’t talk to them to see if they are culpable in this crime against the people of the United States?

Whatever usefulness this organization once had is long gone and our hospitality to them should be also.
